Towards the end of each year, it’s quite common in many places to take a look back at the past twelve months… see what happened, and what may have changed compared to the previous year. We’re doing the same this year. Once again – last year we published a small best-of list for the very first time. So here they are (again) – The 15 Most Popular Recipes of 2025 – a small list of the recipes that attracted the most visitors on the blog over a period of 12 long months. Let’s go!

I’m actually a big fan of statistics and stuff like that. Numbers, yay! ;P If you take a look at the statistics of a website, you can quickly see which article/recipe has been visited/clicked the most over the course of a period of time. But why is that the case? Does a recipe have so many views because people simply like it and are coming back… or did a recipe possibly become viral and got all the views/clicks in one day? Well, luckily you can see that too in statistics. ;P
We’ve gone through the numbers for 2025 once again and picked out the recipes that generated the most traffic. Some of them have been at the top of the list for years, while others made it onto the list for the very first time. So, let’s dive into the recipes and see what came out of it. ;)
1. The Best Pizza Sauce EVER!
Once again this year, our pizza sauce made it to the top of the ranking. Not a baking recipe, but a sauce recipe taking first place on a baking blog. Well. We’ve been asking ourselves for years why this sauce is so incredibly popular, but we do not really know why. Don’t get me wrong, it’s exceptionally good – but you might think that other food blogs would be a more obvious place to look for something like this, right? ;P

2. Creamy Miso Ramen with Chicken Katsu
Second place this year goes to our Creamy Miso Ramen with Chicken Katsu – rising from a solid 10th place last year. This ramen recipe is one of those recipes that, after being published, didn’t seem to gain much traction on social media at all… but apparently plenty of people on the internet want to know how to get a simple bowl of ramen with veggies and chicken onto the table. ;P

3. Invisible Apple Cake aka. Gâteau Invisible
The recipe for this Invisible Apple Cake aka. Gâteau Invisible aux Pommes is one of the older recipes on this list and it’s almost always in the Top 5 of the most popular recipes on the blog. Compared to last year, it dropped down one spot – but it’s safe to say this cake still has quite a few fans out there. ;)

4. The Best Bolognese Sauce EVER
For several years, our Bolognese sauce recipe was consistently ranked number one on the list. This year, it lost a few positions. That doesn’t mean the sauce is no longer the The Best Bolognese Sauce EVER – that’s still the case, if you ask me. People probably just cooked spaghetti Bolognese a little less often. Maybe meatless recipes are slowly gaining ground after all… ;P

5. Easy Potato Soup with Sausages (Wieners)
This delicious Potato Soup with Sausages (Wieners) made it into our Top 10 for the first time this year. The spot is well deserved – this soup is one of our absolute favorite dishes during the colder months. We usually cook it with wieners, but it also tastes great with other types of sausage (e.g. bratwurst). If you prefer a meatless version, you can use plant-based alternatives (e.g. tofu sausages), of course… Even if we might not be allowed to call them »sausages« in the EU for much longer. ;P

6. Easy German Butter Cake Traybake
The ranking of this delicious German Butter Cake Traybake, once again, shows that our readers like simple and straightforward recipes. Few ingredients and easy preparation – what more could you want from a cake? The popularity might also be due to the fact that many people don’t want to bake a large cake, but prefer smaller versions… maybe that’s something we should run a poll on so we can decide what to publish next. ;P

7. Swiss Carrot Cake (Rüblikuchen)
Our Swiss Carrot Cake aka. Rüblikuchen has been around for quite a while now. Definitely one of our favorite recipes and absolutely deserving of its place in the Top 10 for many years already! This cake is something everyone should bake at least once. This cake is also not just for easter. You can make it all year round. If you like the general concept of carrot cake, you might also want to check out our Baked Carrot Cake Cheesecake – also very delicious! https://baketotheroots.de/baked-carrot-cake-cheesecake/

8. Easy Air Fryer Cheesecake
This Air Fryer Cheesecake recipe has only been on the blog since February 2025, so it’s still relatively new compared to the other recipes on this list. The fact that it made it straight into the Top 10 is probably due to the rising popularity of Air Fryers. People need suitable recipes for those machines, right? You wouldn’t buy one of these appliances just to make fries, would you? ;P

9. Stir-Fry Veggies with Chicken & Rice
To be honest, we were a bit surprised by this dish’s position on the list. Don’t get me wrong – the Stir-Fry Veggies with Chicken & Rice are super tasty, but it’s not exactly a highly sophisticated dish. We simply didn’t expect so many people to need a recipe for a basic wok dish… we usually make a dish like that without any recipe – whatever is available can end up in a wok dish like that. ;P

10. Artisan Bread (Mein Schiff)
The recipe for this Artisan Bread is actually a recipe I took home from a cruise ship in 2019. The pastry chef there gave me the recipe for their most popular bread so I could bake it at home. I had to adjust the recipe quite a bit to work in a regular oven, but it was an instant hit on the blog. Perhaps other cruise ship guest are looking for a homemade version and end up on my blog. ;)

11. Spanakopita (Greek Spinach Pie with Filo Pastry)
Our Spanakopita already made it into the Top 15 last year – and this year it climbed a few more spots. On social media, the pie still doesn’t perform particularly well, which is probably due to the blue background used for the pictures. Almost all recipes photographed on that blue board regularly flop on Instagram and other social media platforms. Whop whop… ;P

12. Cabbage Stew with Minced Meat & Potatoes
It’s somewhat surprising that a seasonal recipe like this Cabbage Stew with Minced Meat & Potatoes made it onto the list. Simple cakes or similar recipes without seasonal produce can be made all year round – but dishes like this one here with cabbage only have a relatively short window when people actually need (and search for) recipes… Often just a few weeks in autumn and winter. All the more reason for us to be happy about this ranking, right?!

13. Greek Pasta Bake (Pastitsio)
Another cooking recipe has claimed it’s spot in this list – a Greek Pasta Bake aka. Pastitsio. Even though it’s a cooking recipe, it’s (at least) made in the oven. That gives it some connection to the baking theme here on the blog, right? Or should we start worrying that a large part of the list is dominated by cooking recipes…? ;P

14. Easy Hungarian Goulash Soup
Yet another soup and another cooking recipe has made it to the top of the recipes on this blog. In this case, we’re definitely not upset our Hungarian Goulash Soup is so popular. We’re always happy to see traditional recipes we love to rank near the top – even if they don’t have much to do with baking. Grandma would be pleased. ;)

15. Easy Air Fryer Meatballs
These Easy Air Fryer Meatballs are the second Air Fryer recipe to make it onto this list. Last year, the meatballs were already ranking fairly high as well. If you’d like to try more air fryer recipes, you might also want to check out our Air Fryer Chicken Tenders or our Air Fryer Mutabbal aka. Baba Ganoush. Both are well worth trying – they really, really delicious!

3623. Cookie Monster Chocolate Cookie Bark
Just like last year, we don’t want to hide the very last place on the list. This year, the Cookie Monster Chocolate Cookie Bark didn’t even make it past 1,000 visitors and therefore comes in last out of more than 3,600 posts. A bit of a shame, really – the recipe is super easy and the chocolate cookie bark looks really cute too, don’t you think?

Well. The reality looks a little different on social media (Instagram). There you will find very different recipes in the top positions. Baked goods definitely dominate on social media – simple cakes and cheesecakes are clearly in the lead! What are your favorites?!
