When dinner needs to be a little quicker on the table, we like to use pre-cooked pasta or, as in the case of this Skillet with Mushrooms, Potato Noodles & Spinach we used potato noodles from the supermarket. It’s less work and you get something tasty on the table without a lot of effort. You don’t have to make your life any more complicated than necessary ;P
Even though the selection of veggies and fruit is often not as good in winter as it is in spring or summer, you can still prepare a lot of delicious dishes. Winter veggies, such as red beet, are perfect for a salad. The best example I can think of there, is this Lentil Salad with Red Beet & Halloumi. Packed with vitamins and really delicious!
I got a lot of classic dishes I love to eat but do not necessarily love to make all the time. These delicious Savoy Cabbage Rolls (German Kohlrouladen) are definitely in that category. Everyone loves them here, but not so much when it comes to prepare them, to be honest. We only make them for special occasions or if someone asks really nicely. ;P
We like to keep things simple during the week when it comes to preparing dinner. Nobody wants to spend a lot of time in the kitchen after a long day of work, right?! A simple dish like this Sausage Stroganoff with Potato Noodles (Schupfnudeln) will be on the table in half an hour at the most. A reasonable time to prepare dinner after a busy day, I think. More time would be unbearable! ;)
As a child, the story of the »Suppenkaspar« (a cautionary tale from an old German children’s book) would have been absolutely spot on for me. Kaspar did not like soup, neither did I. Luckily my mom made other food as well. My dislike for soup has changed a little over the years. It’s not a 360° turn, because I still do not like a clear soup (which is basically just flavored water), but it’s much better now. Place a bowl of flavorful soup with loads of stuff innit in front of me… I’m all in! Something like this easy Chorizo & White Bean Soup, for example. An absolute favorite in our house for many years already. I think this would have brought Kaspar to the table as well. Poor chap! ;)
You eat with your eyes first, right?! That’s definitely something that applies to me. I like colorful dishes, meals with a lot of veggies that are bright and vibrant. Stuff like this Sweet ‘n’ Spicy Chicken with Veggies & Coconut Rice. What’s not to love here?! One look, and you know it’s going to be good. That’s what I want from my food! ;)
Hi, my name is Marc. I'm a graphic designer. I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;) Read more...
