Around Christmas, you can’t escape from Christmas cookies. They are everywhere, and a cozy Advent Sunday simply wouldn’t be complete without mulled wine and some Christmas cookies, right? You can either pick up some cookies from the supermarket or make them yourself. Naturally, we always tend to go for homemade Christmas cookies. Delicious Almond Sandwich Cookies, like these here, for example. The perfect candidates for a plate with an assortment of Christmas cookies. ;)
There are dishes you try once and then somehow never forget. For me, Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowls definitely fall into this category. Juicy chicken, nicely smokey seasoning, plenty of veggies, salad, beans, and rice. If you want to treat yourself to this delicious dish, you don’t have to go to a restaurant or a street food market – you can easily make these bowls at home! They’re small, round, with a hole in the middle, and absolutely delicious. Easy Apple Fritters (or Apfelküchle, as we call them in Germany) are always a welcome dessert here at home. With a bit of vanilla custard, these little apple bites are simply the best. Luckily, they’re so easy to prepare – you can quickly make more if you did not make enough and there is still demand… ;P
If you buy bananas often, you are certainly familiar with a specific problem. One day, those bananas look nice and yellow – then you turn around, and they suddenly have brown spots all over. Not everyone likes brown bananas. In our house, bananas are often intentionally left lying around for longer, because that’s when they are simply perfect for baking! Casseroles dishes are the ultimate comfort food for us. A large oven dish filled with pasta, potatoes, and/or veggies, topped with cheese… that’s bound to be good, right?! We experimented a little with potato dumpling dough in this recipe and ended up with a great dinner made in an oven: a Potato Dumpling Casserole with Mushrooms, Leek & Meat. It’s our favorite meal in fall and winter and really delicious!
We love simple loaf cakes. When they are as delicious and moist as this Pistachio & Almond Loaf Cake, everything is just perfect. Then we dig in, and the cake disappears from the cake plate in record time. Maybe we should get into the habit of baking these delicious cakes in pairs… then they might last a little longer. ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
