These »cookies« are often baked for children’s birthday parties here in Germany – simple Black & White Cookies with chocolate and sugar glaze are quick to prepare and popular with kids. These »cookies« may not be the pinnacle of confectionery art, but they are certainly delicious. If you like, you can decorate them with more than just chocolate and sugar glaze… ;)
When we order Crispy Pork Belly and other small dishes as appetizers at the Asian dumpling restaurant around the corner, the pork belly is always the first dish that’s gone… It’s slightly spicy, crispy, and really delicious. Impossible to resist. Really… ;P
When Damson plums arrive at the farmer’s market or in the produce section of supermarkets, we are always very happy to see them! We love these purple fellas because they are very versatile when it comes to baking. This Damson Plum Streusel (Cheesecake) Cake is just one of many examples of what you can do with this type of plum. A really delicious and moist cake with a little twist! ;)
Delicious apricots are available in every supermarket in summer – they come in different sizes and a wide variety of colors – sometimes yellow, sometimes orange, sometimes red. No matter what type of apricots you have on hand, you can use all of them to make this delicious (Sunken) Apricot Cake. An extremely simple cake that tastes awesome. Just like Grandma always made it!
They are absolute classics here in Germany – Braised Cucumbers with Meatballs were always a favorite of our grandma. Nowadays, they may not be quite as hip and trendy as other dishes, but we really like braised cucumbers in a creamy sauce with some meatballs on the side. Childhood memories. And yes, me, the person writing this article here, is a little older. ;P
Caesar salad is a standard in our house when it comes to dinner (and not just in summer). We love making this salad – especially, when no one wants to cook (or eat) a big meal. We almost always have some homemade Caesar Salad Dressing ready in the fridge. It’s so easy to make, stays fresh for quite some time, and tastes great, of course! We love it!
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
