Anyone who has ever been to Sicily (or Italy in general, I guess) will probably know these oversized rice balls. Similar rice balls like these Arancini with Pesto Rosso & Mozzarella can be found on (almost) every corner in Sicily – served as a snack. A very big snack ;) We love these balls (hehe), although they don’t really qualify as a snack for us. As substantial as they are, they count as a full meal for us ;P
When does spring really begin? When the first flowers start blooming? When the temperatures slowly start to rise again? Some insist that spring starts on March 20, but for me, spring starts when Instagram is flooded with wild garlic recipes. That’s for sure a sign that the fun is finally about to start ;) This year, for the first time, I’m contributing a suitable recipe myself to join the wild garlic bloggers: a delicious Soda Bread with Wild Garlic, Spring Onions & Cheddar. So spring has officially sprung ;P
Pita bread is known almost everywhere in the world – it is basically the first type of bread that was made with crushed grains. Flour and some water are mixed and then slapped onto a hot stone. Shortly after that you get something like a pancake/flatbread you can eat. Over the years this type of bread evolved, of course. In Turkey, for example, they serve flatbread with delicious fillings. As an example, I got some flatbread aka. Pide with Spinach, Tomatoes & Feta. Quite easy to prepare and really delicious! Perfect if you got guests coming over ;)
Do you ever think about how famous dishes got their names? Many dishes have names that are connected to places or cities – but some of them have people’s names in the title/description. When I hear the name of a dish like Gnocchi Chicken Alfredo, I always think it’s probably something from the US. People tend to put their names on everything there – not saying that to be mean ;P Well… in the case of this dish here the name is actually based on a guy from Rome called »Alfredo«. At least that’s what Wikipedia claims ;P
I guess… if you like to cook and bake as much as I do, you normally have something prepared when guests come over, right? Whenever I got someone coming to our place for a movie or game night I love to prepare stuff I normally don’t do (during the week). Snacks that are great for a crowd but not perfect if you are only two at home. Snacks like these Potato Skins with Bacon & Cheese, for example. Absolutely divine but a bit much if you want to eat all of them alone ;P
I guess here in Germany not everyone is familiar with Sloppy Joe’s. To be honest, I haven’t seen any restaurant or street food truck yet that sells them here… and here in Berlin you can get basically every dish from all over the world ;P
Americans probably all know about these sandwiches. They created Sloppy Joe’s and basically every other weird burger/sandwich out there ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
