When it’s time for a movie night or game night, you always need something to snack on, right? Chips and other snacks from the supermarket are probably the easiest way to keep a crowd happy… or you could order some pizzas. Actually a good idea most of the time. However, if you got some time to prepare something, I would recommend making some Pigs in a blanket like these here. They are easy to make and sooo good. I love them, and they are the perfect finger food/snack for a nice evening at home.

I am a big fan of finger food and little snacks. We recently went to a wedding where the food was served entirely as a flying buffet. For several hours the food came to the tables on small plates, in bowls, in glasses, on skewers, etc. I was in heaven. For reals. So many opportunities to have a little bite here and there, leave out the stuff you don’t like, or grab a second and third mini plate with the stuff that tasted great. So good!

Unfortunately, no pigs in a blanket at that wedding. A lot of other tasty things though… loads of fish and seafood and classic Spanish treats in a mini format (the wedding was in Spain). Everything was just terrific!

Well… if you are not serving me little sausages in a puff pastry coat, I have to make them myself. Right?! Luckily, they are really easy to make. So easy, you could make them every day. No matter if you are having guests over or not. I don’t mind eating the whole batch myself ;P The small »piggies« can be eaten warm or cold. So in case you have some leftovers, you can store them and eat them (and warm them if you like) the next day without any problems.

I like to make pigs in a blanket for a party when you have a buffet or snack station. They are so easy to prepare and done in no time. You can easily double or triple the ingredients in the recipe and feed a much bigger crowd.

Together with more finger food like Fried Mac ‘n’ Cheese Balls, for example, or Pork Sausage Rolls you can easily whip up a nice snack selection for a party. Probably not the healthiest way to feed your guests but definitely something a lot of people like to eat.

    1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with baking parchment and set aside.

    2. Unroll the puff pastry dough and cut it into pieces large enough to completely enclose the wieners. Wrap the sausages with the puff pastry and cut them into pieces of about 2 inches in length. Place them seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.

    3. For the topping, mix the sesame seeds with the onion and garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix the egg yolk with a little water. Brush the rolls with the egg yolk and sprinkle with the sesame mixture. Bake the »pigs in a blanket« for about 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and serve while still warm with a dip of your choice. Ketchup, mustard, or Brava Sauce are great here.

Hi, my name is Marc. I’m a graphic designer.
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake – for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers – and it seems they like it most of the time. ;)
