I think brownies are a popular sweet treat all over the world. Lovely chocolate flavor and a great texture (if the brownies are baked properly)… simply delicious! If only you could avoid those dirty fingers every time you grab a brownie ;) I know there are forks you could use, but who does that?! The easiest solution for this “problem” are probably these Brownies on Sticks (with Oreos). Brownies that can be eaten like popsicles. No chance to get dirty fingers. All clean. All day ;P

Ok, I have to admit – if you are really craving for brownies and want a quick fix you will probably not be looking for brownies on sticks or stuff like that. In those dire times, you just want the brownies to end up in your face as quickly as possible. No need to worry about dirty fingers (or a dirty face) after eating brownies straight from the baking tin. The only thing you have to worry about is not “inhaling” half of the brownies in an instant ;P Besides that… I think it’s actually nice to serve brownies on sticks.

Just imagine – a nice party with friends or family and a sweet table. If you serve your brownies on sticks you can forget plates and napkins. Place the brownies on a board or platter and anyone who feels like eating brownies can just grab one… with the stick ;P Saves time and probably less waste. If you’re into DIY projects, you could even do something with the used sticks… maybe a little doll house or something like that. After cleaning properly, of course ;P

Just kidding. But it is true. Brownies like that are perfect for parties and buffets. You probably know cake pops already. Same idea. Just a bit smaller normally. Even though I like cake pops they never really work for me. The coating always gets cracks when I make them. Not gonna happen here with the brownies. They are much more forgiving ;)

Anyway. The brownie recipe has been specifically developed to work well with the wooden popsicle sticks. The perfect texture so you can “impale” the brownies without them breaking apart. Other recipes that give you more fudgy brownies are a bit difficult for this type of processing. But there are ways to get the job done… even with other brownie recipes. You just have to freeze the baked and cooled brownies for some time, so they firm up. Then you can add the wooden sticks and they will stay in place. If you dip the brownies, in addition to that, into chocolate to cover them completely you will get a very strong structure. The brownies will not break apart so easily – unless you throw them at someone. Tried and tested ;P

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a 6.5 inches (16,5cm) square baking pan with baking parchment, grease lightly, and set aside. Melt the butter and let cool down a bit. Chop the pecans and set them aside.

    2. Add the melted butter and sugar to a large bowl. Mix until well combined. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix well. In a second bowl mix the flour, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined. Add to the bowl with the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Add the chocolate chips and chopped pecans and fold in. Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan, smooth out the top, and bake for about 18-20 minutes. Check with a toothpick – the brownies are done when the toothpick comes out mostly clean. Some moist crumbs are ok. Take out of the oven and let cool down completely.

    3. When cooled down completely, remove from the baking pan. Cut into 8 brownies and stick a wooden popsicle stick into each piece. Be gentle or the brownies might break. If you freeze the brownies for 30 minutes in advance they are a bit easier to handle.

    4. Chop the chocolate coarsely and add it together with the coconut oil to a small bowl or glass. The bowl/glass should be only slightly larger than the brownies. Melt in short intervals in the microwave. Be careful – do not overheat the chocolate. Dip the brownies in the melted chocolate – I recommend holding the brownie when dipping and not the sticks – and place them on a piece of baking parchment. Sprinkle to your liking with some chopped pecans and/or Oreos and let the chocolate harden completely (works best in the fridge).

Hi, my name is Marc. I’m a graphic designer.
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake – for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers – and it seems they like it most of the time. ;)
