If you love Mexican cuisine, you’ve come to the right place. Today I got a very simple »recipe« for a spice mix used in many Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes: Taco Seasoning. Much better (and cheaper) than anything from the supermarket. I promise! We recommend having a small glass of the mix at home at all times.

The moment you start to cook more often you will probably start to accumulate a variety of spices, adding more and more over time. Some people like to buy spice mixes but I prefer the basic herbs and spices because I can mix everything else with those spices anyway.
Taco seasoning is one of these spice mixes I never buy because it is so easy to make at home. If you are not cooking Mexican dishes that often you can easily mix only the amount of seasoning you need for the recipe – if you are cooking a lot of Mexican dishes you can prepare a big batch… What I want to say – you should always mix your taco seasoning at home.

The spices you require for the typical taco seasoning flavors are relatively common spices. If you are not one of those »frozen pizza« or »microwave pasta« people, I assume you have all the spices at home: chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, paprika powder, and cumin…
Add some additional salt and pepper and you got yourself a nice taco seasoning mix. You can adapt and »improve« the spice mix to your liking. For example – if you like it hot, you can add more chili powder, if you are totally into garlic, add more of that.
