They are a pretty popular snack you can buy in a supermarket – small, roasted pretzel pieces that are well seasoned and (unfortunately) really tasty. You can pick up a small bag of Honey Mustard Pretzel Bites when you do your weekly shopping, or simply make them yourself at home. With an Air Fryer, it’s really easy to make these little snack bites – when doing so, the result is much cheaper than anything you can buy in stores. ;)

Here in Germany, a lot of bars serve spicy pretzel bites like these here along with a drink… not out of pure charity, of course, but to boost beverage sales. ;P If you don’t want to support that, you can season and roast the little snack pieces yourself at home to your heart’s content and serve them along with a beer in your living room. They are much easier to prepare than many might think, I might add.

We fell in love with these little pretzel pieces a few years ago. They taste better than most types of chips you can buy, and they are just perfect for snacking when you have visitors over for drinks or a movie night. Unfortunately, the ones from the supermarket are quite… well, packed with loads of fat and loads of sugar. To be honest, our version here isn’t that much better, but if you wanted to, you could use both a little more sparingly. That’s always a good thing about making something yourself at home – you have complete control. ;P

    Alternative flavors

Pretzel bites can be made in many different flavors – variations are super easy to prepare. All you need is a few spices and something liquid that keeps the spices to the pretzel pieces. This can be honey, maple syrup, or simply melted butter – all can be adjusted to suit your taste!

    Garlic & Herbs Pretzel Bites
Instead of honey and mustard, you could use a little more garlic and onion powder, add some dried parsley and oregano, and voilà, you have a completely different flavor for your pretzel bites.

    Parmesan & Herbs Pretzel Bites
For all cheese lovers out there, we recommend adding some grated Parmesan to the spice mixture. Add a few Italian herbs and black pepper, and you will create a delicious, aromatic snack.

    Honey & Cinnamon Pretzel Bites
If you prefer to stick with honey, you can leave out the mustard and add a little cinnamon to the mixture instead. In that case, you should leave out the herbs as well and use only a bit of salt. The pretzel bites are also great when they’re a little sweeter!

    Chili & Lime Pretzel Bites
For those who like it a little spicier – chili powder and/or cayenne pepper, lime zest or lime salt, plus a little paprika powder (omit the honey, mustard, and other spices) and you have a completely new flavor.

    Ranch Style Pretzel Bites
Anyone who has ever eaten in an American diner is probably familiar with ranch dressing – this also works great here! Garlic powder, onion powder, dill, chives, and a little parsley are the flavor-giving components here. Add a little salt and pepper and this version is ready for the Air Fryer…

You can also prepare pretzel bites without an Air Fryer, of course. A regular convection oven can be used instead. Depending on the oven, you may need to adjust the settings slightly, but in most cases, the temperature can remain the same. However, the small pretzel bites often need to stay in the oven a little longer – don’t forget to turn them over halfway through!

Whether you like to entertain guests or just need some variety for your snack repertoire on the couch, we have a lot of recipes for that. Our Pork Sausage Rolls might look a bit difficult to make, but are actually super easy to prepare thanks to ready-made puff pastry dough and the bratwurst meat used. These little bites are always a big hit with guests!

If you prefer something that’s a little more special, you should definitely try our Deep-fried Dill Pickles. Here the pickles are sliced, breaded, deep-fried, and then served with a delicious ranch dip. It sounds a bit weird, and it is, but they taste extremely delicious! Promised! ;)

    1. Cut the pretzels or pretzel sticks into small (bite-size) pieces. Set aside.

    2. For the seasoning sauce, combine the honey with mustard, melted butter, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika powder, and dried oregano in a bowl. Add the pretzel pieces and mix until the pieces are completely covered. Let sit for about 5 minutes.

    3. Preheat the Air Fryer to a temperature of160°C (320°F). Transfer the pretzel pieces to the Air Fryer basket and roast them for about 8-10 minutes (flip them several times) until the individual pieces are crispy. If you have a smaller Air Fryer, you may need to do this in two batches. The pretzel pieces shouldn’t be sitting on top of each other. The baking time may vary slightly depending on the appliance you are using. The use of baking parchment will also affect the baking time.

    4. Transfer the finished Pretzel Bites to a bowl and sprinkle them with some flaky sea salt. Let them cool completely. Store the cooled Pretzel Bites in a tightly sealed container.
