Easter and yeast bakes go together like Christmas and Christmas cookies. None of these holidays would work without its special bakes. Fortunately (for you), I got quite a collection of recipes for these types of bakes. So in case, you need some inspiration for the upcoming Easter holidays I might have something for you. This little “top 10” is just the tip of the iceberg. But also the best of the best. So get some fresh yeast and enough flour for all of these bakes. Are you ready? ;)
Not everyone is a huge fan when it comes to yeast bakes. Almost everyone loves to eat it, but baking it at home…?! Some are actually a little afraid of yeast bakes, I’ve been told. Even though there is nothing to fear – I can understand what people do not like. Yeast can behave a bit bitchy sometimes. I also had some baking fails, I have to admit. But that happened actually because I did not follow the recipe correctly. Or better said I improvised a bit too much and changed things I should not have changed. Yeast does not like to be treated that way ;P
So make sure you stick to the recipe and everything will (most likely) turn out perfectly. If you have a “feeling” for the consistency of your dough you should be fine anyway ;P
Classic Sweet Braided Loaf
A Classic Sweet Braided Loaf (with or without raisins) is something we always bake for Easter. You just can’t celebrate the holidays without it. A slice for breakfast with some butter on top… there is nothing better!
Marzipan Poppy Seed Yeast Wreath aka. Hefekranz
For all fans of poppy seeds and marzipan, this delicious Marzipan Poppy Seed Yeast Wreath is something, especially for you! A delicious sweet addition to your brunch buffet or as the star of your Easter breakfast. It’s so good! I start drooling already just looking at the picture ;P
Hot Cross Bun Loaf
Hot Cross Buns are well known in the English-speaking part of the world. The fluffy brioche buns with a cross on top are served mainly for Easter. In this Hot Cross Bun Loaf, all of the brioche buns joined forces to turn into one single loaf ;) We have something similar here in Germany called “Rosinenstuten” – just without the crosses on top. Both very delicious… if you like raisins ;)
Classic Sweet Braided Loaf with Nuts
If I can’t get a classic sweet braided loaf, this Classic Braided Loaf with Nuts is a great alternative. A bit sweeter due to the nut filling – something most people will be fine with I assume ;P You can actually regulate the sweetness by adding less sugar to the filling. If you want… nobody is forcing you ;P
Eierlikör (Eggnog) Cinnamon Rolls
Do you know the secret to perfect and fluffy cinnamon rolls? It’s very simple (and actually not a secret at all): it’s Eierlikör (you might know something similar called eggnog)! Somehow the alcohol makes the bake very nice and fluffy and at the same time adds some flavor. You do not add that much alcohol so Grandma Frieda would get a buzz… but still… very nice ;)
Cinnamon Roll Bread
Once again something “cinnamony” – only this time the cinnamon rolls are shaped like a loaf of bread. There is no need to bake cinnamon rolls in a big baking dish. You can do that perfectly in a good old loaf pan. This Cinnamon Roll Bread saves so much space later on when you add the bake to your Easter buffet. More room for more food ;P
Poppy Seed Braided Loaf
Similar to the Classic Sweet Braided Loaf or Sweet Braided Loaf with Nuts – this Poppy Seed Braided Loaf is a popular Easter pastry in our family. I love the flavor of the poppy seed – not the effect you might think they have… which they don’t. Unfortunately?(!) ;P
Vegan Kanelbullar aka. Swedish Cinnamon Rolls
There is no way around cinnamon rolls when it comes to yeast bakes. They are popular everywhere and many cultures have their own specific version. These here are vegan and from Sweden: delicious Kanelbullar with apples and pecans. Actually more like knots and not rolls… but who cares?! They are the best and perfect for an Easter brunch!
Dumplings (Buchteln) with Rhubarb & Ginger Compote
Buchteln are actually a delicious dessert you can enjoy all year round in many European countries. The delicious dumplings are also suitable for Easter – especially with that rhubarb and ginger filling. Easy to prepare and loved by everybody who had the chance to try them once before ;P
Easter Brioche Bunnies with Saffron
Saffron isn’t just great for a classic Spanish paella. Saffron works great in bakes as well. It gives your bread or cake a nice color and also adds some flavor. Same is happening with the Easter Brioche Bunnies. Not everyone likes that though – so be careful and maybe do not use too much saffron ;)
