Carnival (Mardi Gras) is a big thing here in Germany… well at least in some areas ;) My hometown goes crazy for a whole week, so do people in the area around Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Mainz. A week where everything is loud and colorful. We here in Berlin do not do anything when there is carnival time in Germany. It’s like “don’t bother us – it does not exist” ;P

Well – since I am from the southern part of Germany where we celebrate carnival, I need at least something to remember me what’s going on at home. Sweet treats like these baked Funfetti Donuts are an option to get some fun into a gray February or March day ;))

No matter if you want to organize a carnival party or a birthday party – these easy baked Funfetti Donuts are always a good idea. The dough is simple and those little guys bake quickly. With some sugar glaze or chocolate and some colorful sprinkles, you will definitely have some nice to serve to your guests.

Of course, you could buy donuts in a store, but where is the fun in that? ;) If you have kids you can make a little event and let them decorate their donuts themselves. If you like certain kinds of flavors, add them… almond, citrus, caramel… or maybe something boozy like amaretto, baileys or limoncello… it’s up to you! Just don’t give the kids the booze :P

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan and set aside.

    2. In a large bowl mix the egg with sugar until light and fluffy. Add the melted (and cooled) butter and milk and mix in. Mix the flour with baking powder, and salt and add to the bowl. Mix until just combined. Add the rainbow sprinkles and fold in – try to work quickly and mix gently, or the sprinkles lose all of the colors. Transfer the batter to donut pan and fill the rings almost full, leaving the center free. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Take out of the oven and let cool down a bit in the oan, then remove and let cool down completely on a wire rack.

    3. For the glaze mix the confectioners’ sugar with vanilla extract and heavy cream until smooth (add some food color if you like and mix in). Glaze the donuts and sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles. Let dry.

    1. Den Ofen auf 175°C (350°F) vorheizen. Ein Donut-Blech einfetten und zur Seite stellen.

    About me

Hi, my name is Marc. I’m a graphic designer.
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake – for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers – and it seems they like it most of the time. ;)
