We’ve all been there – you get invited somewhere and don’t really know what to bring as a little »thank-you gift«. We like to solve this problem with Homemade Chocolate Truffles, which you wrap up nicely and give to the hosts of the party. If you know what the recipient likes, you can customize and personalize these truffles very easily. The perfect gift!

Small homemade gifts are, of course, not just a nice idea for friends – you can also surprise a loved one with a sweet surprise like these chocolate truffles for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day. I always say, »The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach«. Or am I wrong about that? That’s what they say…

Some people also say, »small gifts keep friendships alive«. No matter which saying you want to use, the result is the same. It’s always a good idea to give something small and sweet as a gift! And if it’s homemade, you simply can’t go wrong!

For my little chocolate truffles, I used a special edition chocolate from Ritter Sport*: it’s called Ritter Sport Amicelli*. A new type of chocolate that has just arrived in the stores and will be available until the end of 2025 (here in Germany). Many will be familiar with Amicelli – the delicious wafer rolls with a cream filling have been part of the Ritter Sport family since 2021 and have now found their way into the classic square chocolate bars.

Side note – the entire Ritter Sport range is produced exclusively with certified cocoa. Ritter Sport has been working intensively for many years to achieve the best possible transparency along the entire cocoa supply chain in order to improve the situation in cocoa cultivation through specific local programs. Transparency is becoming increasingly important in the food sector these days.

Of course, you could also prepare these delicious truffles with other types of chocolate – Ritter Sport has plenty of chocolate in stores you could use! When using a different type of chocolate, you may need to adjust the amount of heavy cream in the recipe. Depending on the filling or type of chocolate (milk or semi-sweet chocolate), it may be necessary to adjust the amount of cream slightly, so the truffles have the perfect consistency. If the filling is a little softer, for example, you may need less cream – if there is more semi-sweet chocolate involved, a little more cream is usually needed to achieve a creamy and soft consistency for the truffles.

The chocolate used has a huge impact on the taste of the truffles. You can add additional flavor with the coating – chopped nuts, cocoa, or freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries – all of these toppings can be used to further refine the truffles and flavors. If you like it »boozy«, you could add a little rum or cream liqueur to the truffle chocolate mixture, for example. The possibilities here are almost endless. ;P

We’ve been working with Ritter Sport for a few years now, so there are already a few recipes with their delicious chocolate here on the blog. In case you want to try more, you should perhaps take a look at our Vegan Salted Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes, for example. Absolute delicacies!

Perhaps our Ritter Sport Rum Raisin Cookies show, that you can also make delicious treats with other Ritter Sport products. These cookies are made with little rum chocolates and are extremely tasty! The only problem we have with those rum chocolates – it’s hard to collect enough chocolates for a recipe once the package is open… somehow these littles thingies always disappear very quickly. ;P

    DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG

    • Deutsch

    1. Chop the chocolate and add it together with the heavy cream to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat up slowly in the microwave until the chocolate has melted, and you got a nice and smooth chocolate sauce. Cover the bowl and let the chocolate cool down, then place it in the fridge overnight.

    2. Use a small cookie scoop** or a spoon to get small portions of chocolate mixture out of the bowl and shape them into small balls – this can get a bit messy. Roll the balls in cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or whatever you chose as a coating. Keep the coated chocolate truffles in the fridge (for up to 2 weeks).

    Notes:
+ make sure the chocolate mixture is well cooled before you shape and coat the truffles – the warmer they get, the messier it might get
+ you can use many types of (roasted) nuts, sprinkles, etc. to coat the truffles – make sure everything is finely chopped, so it sticks better to the chocolate

    About me

Hi, my name is Marc. I’m a graphic designer.
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake – for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers – and it seems they like it most of the time. ;)
