Strawberries are everywhere right now. Everywhere on the street, the markets and also in our kitchen ;) Here in Berlin you can find little booths at almost every corner selling strawberries and is very tempting each time you pass by. Well… most of the time I actually do not pass by but stop and buy some strawberries. That’s probably the reason why I have so many recipes with strawberries here on the blog already. Which brings me to this little collection here. Since I have so many recipes with strawberries, why not sharing with you my top 10 favorite strawberry recipes on the blog?
I actually only counted in recipes where strawberries are the stars of the recipes ;) There are much more recipes out there where the strawberries are accompanied by other fruits and berries (or veggies) like rhubarb, raspberries or melon, for example. I wanted to focus on strawberries only this time, so get ready for some strawberry overload!
Let’s start with the most obvious usage of strawberries right now: Strawberry Ice Cream! With the heat we are experiencing right now it’s a good idea to cool down with 1-26 scoops of strawberry ice cream, right? Good thing – the ice cream is really easy to prepare. Even if you do not own an ice cream maker you can still make this ice cream (with slightly more effort but still not that bad). Pro tip: add some chopped white chocolate to make this ice cream even better!
For me personally, strawberries and whipped cream are the perfect combination. When I was a child my mom often served us this combination as a dessert in summer. This naked cake is basically my childhood dessert re-imagined as cake ;) That’s probably the reason why I like this cake so much. Also super easy to prepare… which is always good too ;) I guess there is not much that can go wrong with this kind of cake – basic cake, strawberries, and whipped cream. What’s not to love about that?! Oh and in case you wonder about the title of the article – yes, I made the Naked Strawberry Cake for Mother’s Day but you can enjoy it all year round (or as long as you can get hold of fresh strawberries) ;)
I think topping cakes with fresh strawberries is always a good idea. Fresh, sweet and delicious. If you puree some of the strawberries and mix it with pieces of the strawberries you get a super nice topping – not only for a cheesecake like this Strawberry Cheesecake. Shortcake, chocolate cake and many more will benefit from fresh strawberries ;)
NOTE: If you want to try a vegan version of a cheesecake, you should take a look at this Vegan Cheesecake with Strawberry Topping. Also super delicious!
I had my very first Strawberry Shortcake from a vending machine in the break room at my workplace at Disney. I can still remember how it tasted ;) I fell in love with those shortcakes immediately. The ones from the vending machine were completely artificial – I assume there was absolutely nothing natural in it – but I loved it. Nowadays I make a strawberry shortcake myself, of course. And who would have guessed… much better with fresh strawberries ;) This is something you should definitely try if you haven’t so far…
Tiramisu is a delicious dessert. How can it made differently and maybe better? With strawberries, of course! The combination of the mascarpone cream with strawberries (and a little bit of a strawberry liquor) is so good! This Strawberry Tiramisu is very refreshing in summer and quite easy to prepare. If you want to make several people happy at once, you should go for this updated classic!
6. Strawberry Tart with Crème Pâtissière
During the strawberry season you can find classic strawberry cakes basically in every German bakery. A vanilla cake layer topped with custard and loads of strawberries. The French do it a little different – they prefer more delicate tarts with crème pâtissière and fresh strawberries. What do you think is better?
7. Strawberry Ombre Cheesecake with Salted Pretzel Base
This cake was my first attempt to create an ombre effect for a cake. You all know what I mean, right? That different colored layers that go from light to dark (or the other way round). I think I did a pretty good job here and the Strawberry Ombre Cheesecake turned out really nice :) Topped with strawberries it was the star of the show…
8. Danish with Vanilla Custard and Strawberries
These Danish are something you can probably find in every German bakery these days. They are very popular, topped with vanilla custard and various berries or fruits. I decided to “crown” them with fresh strawberries since strawberries are “THE BEST”! ;) If you use puff pastry dough from the store they are pretty easy and quick to prepare. One more plus for these little delicious Danish pastries.
These little fellas are the absolute strawberry overload! These Strawberry Cupcakes not only have a little strawberry on top, but strawberries are also used in the buttercream and hidden within the cupcakes – if you cut them in half you will see. You could not incorporate more strawberries into cupcakes even if you wanted to :P You should definitely try them. They are absolute crowd pleasers in our home!
10. White Chocolate Cream Cheese Strawberry Cookies
Last but not least I got a strawberry recipe for you that is for quite a while on my blog – Strawberry Cookies with white chocolate and cream cheese. I mean, come on… the name should make you drooling already. It’s basically a strawberry cheesecake in shape of small and handy cookies. Ready to snack at any time! You should definitely try those cookies if you love strawberries!
