As far as baking goes, I’m a huge Halloween nerd. I just love spilling berry juice all over the place for this “holiday” so everything looks like it’s been smeared with blood. I’m not a fan of Halloween parties, I don’t like dressing up for Halloween and horror movies aren’t really my thing either…. but fake “blood” everywhere me likey like! Is that weird? ;P
Just kidding! Or maybe not? Every once in a while you’re allowed to bake something “weird”, right?! I enjoy “creepy” stuff when it comes to cake decoration for Halloween. If some people are slightly disgusted by my cakes and say stuff like “eeeeww” and “jeeeeez” you know you did a good job. Worth all the spilled blood and time invested ;P
Of course, not everything has to be drenched with blood for Halloween. You can also bake cute stuff for Halloween. Small colorful monster cookies for example. They are perfect for parties where little kids are involved. Most of my other bakes, though, should not be served to small kids I guess… you never know if one of the cupcakes might be biting ;P
1. Halloween Haunted Gingerbread House
Everyone needs a Haunted House for Halloween. Maybe not necessarily one you can eat. But having a house you can nibble on is actually a nice “showstopper” for a Halloween party. This “old box” made of gingerbread is for all of you out there that want to invest a bit more time in your (edible) Halloween decorations. If you have done one of these you are ready to build a real one for your family… for sure!
2. Halloween “Brainy” Skull Sugar Cookies
When it comes to decorations for Halloween you can count me in if you got something with bloody brains. It’s so delicious! Just kidding… though these Skull Cookies are really tasty. You just have to be careful with the blood. You don’t want to ruin the white sugar glaze with it… ;P
3. Little Shop of Horrors Cupcakes
The moment a carnivorous plant from outer space starts singing I am in Halloween heaven! Little Shop of Horrors is one of the funniest, weirdest movies/musicals I’ve ever seen. I love it! Strawberries may not be in season this time of year to create all these little Audreys… but hey, sometimes you have to do things you don’t like. Just kidding ;P
4. Halloween Face/Off Apple Pie
If you only knew how many faces I had to organize to get this one pie perfect…. somehow they always shrink a lot when baked! It’s horrible! But eventually, it worked. Oh and the pie has an absolutely delicious apple pie filling. I recommend making one yourself!
5. Halloween Spider Chocolate Chip Cookies
For all of you that are NOT into blood and brains – I got other stuff too. Delicious chocolate chip cookies, for example. The little spiders on top are made with chocolate-covered nuts and raisins. That’s right… RAISINS! Pure horror, right?! ;P
6. Jack O’Lantern Cookies with Dulce de leche
Pumpkins are an essential decoration in the fall and for Halloween. Instead of carving a pumpkin and letting it rot outside your house you can simply bake some pumpkins and fill them with dulce de leche…. sooo yummy!
7. Halloween Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownies
Hocus Pocus is probably one of the most popular (family-friendly) movies for Halloween. I’m a big fan of the Sanderson Sisters. While I don’t completely agree with them trying to suck the life out of children… still a big fan. Everyone has little flaws here and there ;)
8. Cranky Crinkle Cookie Monsters
Colorful, delicious, and monsterly good! These Crinkle Monster Cookies are the perfect snack for a Halloween party with kids… or just for a birthday maybe. They are very tasty and an absolute eye-catcher!
9. Wicked Witches of the East Cupcakes
Another (family-friendly) movie for Halloween that’s actually not scary (at all): The Wizard of Oz. When Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion hop around singing everything is happy and joyful. Not sure if the witch who had the house fall on her head feels the same way. At least she has her own cupcakes here ;P
10. Bloody Mess & Graveyard Cupcakes
If you’re not careful, blood can easily spill around the kitchen. Especially if you’re handling broken glass. I don’t know who was so stupid and stuck the glass shards into the cupcakes. It’s quite obvious that someone will cut him/herself doing that!
11. Spiderweb Pumpkin Chocolate Cake
If you are expecting a lot of guests for Halloween you need something bigger. A cake. A big pumpkin chocolate cake, for example. I think it looks smashing! Especially with the spiderweb decoration and the little chocolate bats ;)
12. Bloody Mess Cookies
What can I say… don’t play with fire or you will burn. Or in this case – play with knives and someone will be cut. Never give small kids sharp objects to play with. Unless you need some blood for decorations. Really delicious cookies – did I mention that already? :P
13. Bloody Intestines Cinnamon Rolls
This one is fresh from the butcher! These Bloody Intestines (Cinnamon Rolls) are an absolute treat and definitely a little showstopper when having friends over for a coffee. Who can resist delicious cinnamon rolls with berry sauce? No one!
14. Halloween Cheesecakes on Sticks
You’ve probably noticed by now – there is no way for me to not spill blood or play with brains for Halloween! These delicious cheesecake slices have been decorated with everything I could find in the kitchen… When grandma comes around for Halloween, you have to be able to serve her something nice and delicious, right?
