Happy Cookie Friday! I assume you are here on a Friday, of course. The best day for cookies! If not… Happy Cookie Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, … whatever ;P Celebrate any day of the week with some delicious Milky Way Chocolate Chip Cookies! They are great! Not really healthy, but hey… that’s what cheat days are made for, right? ;P

Mars Chocolate Chip Cookies | Bake to the roots

If you take a look at my recipes here on the blog you might notice I have already published more than 370 cookie recipes. I could actually throw out all the other recipes from the blog and just go with the cookies I guess. That alone would be probably more recipes than other websites have collectively ;P I really love cookies. Everything from »high-calorie density« cookies (like these here) to »almost healthy« cookies without sugar. Though I have to admit that the sweeter cookies have been on the decline for a while. People (including myself) prefer healthier sweets and snacks these days… which is absolutely ok!

Now and then you can still eat one of the »forbidden« cookies (as I call them). The ones where you can smell the sugar that has been added. Back in the days when I was still eating sweet stuff on a regular basis, I loved to eat Milky Way chocolate bars. Caramel, milk cream, and chocolate – what’s not to love? Delicious but also dangerous – at least for me ;) For example… I only needed a few chocolate bars from the package I bought to make the cookies. My old »me« would have eaten the rest within a day or two – including skyrocketing blood sugar levels. That’s why I have to give away all the stuff I should not eat. Let others deal with the poison I can’t eat… so to speak ;P Just kidding!

Anyway. Even though I do not eat chocolate bars and stuff like that anymore – I still love to bake with it. It’s fun, the results are delicious, and I can stop eating after one cookie. Everything else goes out to friends and family. Those friends are also my guinea pigs for my recipes that have to report back if they like what they ate or not. Normally they do like it and in the end, everybody is happy. Friends/Family because of the free stuff they get – be, because I get feedback and the risk of eating too much is minimized ;P

Soo… the cookies here are excellent, but keep in mind – they are also sweet and packed with sugar (and loads of calories). I added half a mini chocolate bar to each of the cookies to get a nice cross-section when breaking them apart. Great for photos but not really necessary I’d say. There are already a lot of chopped Milky Way bars in the cookie dough… you could easily skip the one in the center. Would not change the flavor intensity. Unless you really want to… then go for it! ;P

Coffee House Cookies – Chunky Chocolate Cookies

If you leave out the one in the center you can actually get regular Milky Way chocolate bars instead of the mini version. Two of those should be enough for the cookie batter. Those can be cut into small pieces easily. Same results. Less danger of eating a whole bag of chocolate bars »because they needed to be eaten, so they won’t spoil«… I know all the tricks to lie to yourself ;P

By the way, this is not meant to be an ad for the Mars Corporation. You can use the cheaper »replicas« your supermarket might have just as well… or similar chocolate bars for that matter. The recipe should work with many different chocolate bars.

The next cookies will be healthier again. Promised ;P (Oh, and don’t be surprised to see Mars Chocolate Bars on the pictures – that’s how Milky Way is called here in Germany)

    1. Add the butter and cream cheese to a large bowl and mix until well combined. Add the sugar and mix everything for a minute or two until well combined. Next, add the egg and vanilla extract and mix in. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to the bowl and mix until just combined.

    2. Chop the chocolate and chocolate candy bars coarsely. Add to the batter and fold in. Use a cookie scoop* to create dough portions for the cookies, press half a mini chocolate bar into each dough portion (it should disappear completely in the dough), and place on a board or cookie sheet lined with paper. Adding the additional Milky Way pieces to the dough is optional. Cover the dough portions and place in the fridge for about 2 hours.

    3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with baking parchment. Place 6-8 dough portions on the baking sheet (depending on the sheet size) – you want enough space in between the cookies. Bake for about 12-13 minutes. Take out of the oven and let cool down for a while on the baking sheet. If the cookies are spread out too much you can bring them back in shape right after taking them out of the oven. Let cool down completely on a wire rack. Repeat with the remaining dough portions. Store at room temperature in a cookie box.

    About me

Hi, my name is Marc. I’m a graphic designer.
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake – for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers – and it seems they like it most of the time. ;)
