If you are like me, you probably like those little snacks made out of puff pastry dough with cheese on it. Are you one of those? Well, then I have exactly the right thing for you :P
You need a snack for an evening watching a nice movie or having a beer with friends? Well – these puff pastry cheese sticks are just perfect for that. I used caraway seeds and pepper to season them, but you can also use other herbs, like rosemary or oregano and also use the cheese you like most – try a nice spicy one… it’s all up to you.
INGREDIENTS / ZUTATEN
1/2 lb (250g) of fresh puff pastry dough*
2-3 tbsp. caraway seeds
3/4 cup (100-150g) grated cheese (I used a mix of parmesan and gruyère)
2 tsp. cayenne pepper
2 egg yolks
flour for rolling out the dough
* you can use puff pastry dough from the supermarket (better use the fresh one than the frozen one), but you can also make it yourself – it’s not very difficult, just a bit time consuming – you can find a recipe here.
DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG
2. Preheat the oven to 400˚F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry dough into a rectangle – one side should be at least 7 inches (18cm). Spread the egg yolks over the dough and sprinkle with the cheese mix. Cut into stripes and twist them to form the cheese sticks. Place on parchment paper on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
