Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 lb (250g) of fresh puff pastry dough*
  • 23 tbsp. caraway seeds
  • 3/4 cup grated cheese (I used a mix of parmesan and gruyère)
  • 2 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 2 egg yolks
  • flour for rolling out the dough

Instructions

  1. In a mortar nix the caraway seeds and cayenne pepper and grind. Add the grated cheese and mix well.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400˚F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry dough into a rectangle – one side should be at least 7 inches (18cm). Spread the egg yolks over the dough and sprinkle with the cheese mix. Cut into stripes and twist them to form the cheese sticks. Place on parchment paper on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • * you can use puff pastry dough from the supermarket (better use the fresh one than the frozen one), but you can also make it yourself – it’s not very difficult, just a bit time consuming – you can find a recipe here.
