Sometimes there is no time for cooking. Not even enough time for ordering something. When I’m in a hurry or just don’t want to do much, I often make sandwiches. They are done in no time, simple and easy. This Italian B.M.T. Sandwich is one of those easy dishes I like to prepare when I’m not in the mood for anything else ;P
This sandwich here is somewhat of a copycat of the B.M.T. Sandwich from Subway. I like this sandwich a lot even though I am not a big fan of Subway anymore ;P I loved to go there often when I was living in the US… until the day I had a sandwich from Subway that made me sick. Classic food poisoning. Well… happens. But since then I kind of avoided Subway. Similar to Jägermeister bottles (that is another story) ;P
Anyway. Me not liking the fast-food chain does not mean I don’t like sandwiches… as long as they don’t make me sick ;) One of my favorite sandwiches is definitely the B.M.T. Sandwich. The “Biggest, Meatiest & Tastiest” Sandwich. You probably knew that already. The name says it all! Lots of different types of cold cuts, some cheese, and veggies. Everything combined in a nice bread = delicious and easy meal.
As you probably know from the Subway stores – there are two ways to prepare the sandwich. You can just add everything to the sandwich bun, close the bun and call it a day… or you toast the bun fist with some cheese and then add the rest on top. That’s the preparation I prefer. Takes a bit longer then but definitely worth the extra effort. By the way, the buns used for these sandwiches are simple Hoagie Rolls – classic buns/rolls for bigger sandwiches. But of course, you don’t have to make them yourself. Use any kind of sandwich buns or burger buns you can find in the supermarket or at your favorite bakery.
INGREDIENTS / ZUTATEN
(2 sandwiches)
2 sandwich buns (hoagie rolls)
2-4 lettuce leaves
1 large tomato
1/2 bell pepper (red or green), in strips
2-3 black olives, sliced
8 slices of salami
6 slices of smoked turkey
4 slices of cooked ham
4 slices of mozzarella
sauce to taste (e.g. mayonnaise or pesto)
(2 Sandwiches)
2 Sandwich Brötchen (Hoagie Rolls)
2-4 Salatblätter
1 große Tomate
1/2 Paprika (rot oder grün), in Streifen
2-3 schwarze Oliven, in Scheiben
8 Scheiben Salami
6 Scheiben Truthahn
4 Scheiben Kochschinken
4 Scheiben Mozzarella
Soße nach Belieben (z.B. Mayo oder Pesto)
DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG
1. Wash, dry, and thinly slice the tomato. Wash and dry the peppers, remove the seeds, and cut them into thin strips. Slice the olives as well.
2. Cut the sandwich buns lengthwise in half and toast to your liking or roast briefly in a skillet pan. Spread mayo or pesto on both sides, then top with lettuce, tomato slices, bell pepper strips, and sliced olives. Place sliced salami, turkey, ham, and mozzarella on the bun and fold the buns together.
3. If you like melted cheese, you could also toast the sandwich for several minutes in the oven (if you have a grill option). In that case, you should change the order for the veggies and cold cuts – cold cuts and cheese first, then toasting it and finally finish it with the veggies.
