When summer is hot (it does happen from time to time here in Berlin), it’s nice to be able to »bake« something without having to turn on the oven. No-bake cakes are simply perfect on hot days. Today we got a gnocchi dish that’s a bit different – instead of a savory meal, we have prepared a sweet dessert using simple potato gnocchi. Delicious Sweet Gnocchi with Damson Plum & Apple Compote. We also call it Gnocchi »Schmarrn« in honor of the classic Austrian dessert »Kaiserschmarrn« everybody knows. The two desserts are not really related, but close friends, let’s say it like that. ;P
In summer, you’ll find a few zucchini plants in almost every veggie garden. They’re a staple for many gardeners. Why? Well, the plants are quite easy to grow and usually very productive. Gardeners love it when their hard labor is rewarded with a nice and lush harvest. We’ve had good results in the past with our small raised bed on the terrace. Maybe not enough to make these Stuffed Zucchini with Mediterranean Rice for a whole family, but it’s normally enough for the two of us at home. ;P
Fresh Mung bean sprouts are a crunchy, nutrient-rich addition to many dishes. You can find them in many supermarket – but when you grow them at home, they are cheaper and fresher than anything you can buy in a store. When it comes to Asian noodle dishes, a simple Pad Thai (with Chicken) is always at the top of our list. It’s quite easy to prepare and doesn’t require too many exotic ingredients… Asian cuisine often uses a lot of different spices and sauces that are not very common in cooking recipes of Western countries. At least the traditional cooking recipes. ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
