Once again, it’s “Bake Together” time! That means the month is almost over and Andrea from Zimtkeks & Apfeltarte are here with a new Bake Together topic. During spring and summer, it’s always easy to find something we can use in our bakes since there are many fresh fruits and berries available. It is strawberry season and today we decided to use them in desserts – something that does not need to be baked even though the event is called “Bake Together” ;) So what do you think about some delicious Strawberry Pretzel Trifles? Sounds good?!

Andrea and I have a fixed date at the end of each month where we bake together – it’s called “Bake Together – The Baking Surprise” even though we are not baking together in the presence of the other one. It’s more a “virtual” thing ;) And as you can see we are not only baking. Sometimes it is only chilling a cake or dessert, sometimes it’s something cooked even… Not too long ago we made a “Vegan Bake Together Week” with many different recipes – cooked and baked stuff. You might want to check it out if you want some vegan inspiration…
Anyway. Today there is no need to heat up the oven. No baking but still a surprise ;) Who does not like to be surprised from time to time… even if it’s just a new recipe from a blogger colleague ;)
So today’s heroes are strawberries – we have used them already for several “Bake Together” events. Our very first recipes were actually cakes with strawberries. The cakes that started everything over four years ago… ;) Time flies. Back then I already used the combination of strawberries and salted pretzels – just in a different way. I guess it’s a good combination ;P
Strawberries and pretzels are actually really great companions. The sweetness of the strawberries, the salty pretzels, and the mascarpone cream together turn into a super delicious dessert. No long cooling or waiting times, no complicated equipment needed – this scrumptious dessert is ready in no time. A quick ‘n’ easy one! ;)

If you want to prepare the dessert for a larger group or a buffet, you can use a large trifle glass instead of the individual small ones. Takes less time to set up if you layer everything in one big bowl instead of many small glasses. Everyone can help him/herself by just scooping something on their plate. I prefer the smaller glasses though – I like to have my own bowl/glass/plate and don’t feel embarrassed taking a second or third one if I want more ;P
Anyway. I’m curious about what Andrea has come up with this time. I bet she made something really delicious. She always makes really nice desserts… shall we check her blog to find out what she created?

INGREDIENTS / ZUTATEN
For the strawberry layer:
5-6 large strawberries, chopped
1 tsp. brown sugar
For the cream & topping:
6.3 oz. (180g) heavy cream
1 tbsp. confectioners’ sugar
3.5 oz. (100g) mascarpone cheese
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
For the pretzel layer:
1.5 oz. (45g) salted pretzels, crushed
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1 tsp. brown sugar
strawberries for decorations
Für die Erdbeerschichten:
5-6 große Erdbeeren, gewürfelt
1 TL brauner Zucker
Für die Creme und das Topping:
180g Schlagsahne
1 EL Puderzucker
100g Mascarpone
1/2 TL Vanille Extrakt
Für die Salzbrezelschichen:
45g Salzbrezeln, zerbröckelt
1 EL Butter, geschmolzen
1 TL brauner Zucker
ein paar Erdbeeren für die Dekoration

DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG
2. Add the heavy cream and confectioners’ sugar to a tall bowl and whisk (with a hand mixer) until stiff peaks form. Set aside. Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract to a second bowl and mix until well combined. Gradually add about 2/3 of the whipped cream to the bowl and carefully fold in – the rest of the whipped cream is for the decoration. Set both aside.
3. Crush the pretzels (in a freezer bag, for example) and mix with the brown sugar, and melted butter until well combined.
4. Finish the trifles right before serving. To assemble the trifles divide half of the mascarpone cream between two serving glasses, top with half of the pretzel mixture and then half of the strawberries to get nice layers. Repeat with the remaining cream, pretzel mix, and strawberries. Decorate the trifles with the whipped cream you set aside and a strawberry in each glass. Serve and enjoy.
