Summer is the time for BBQ and salads. When the sun is shining outside and the temperatures are not dropping below 30°C, a light salad is pretty much the only option. Salad is perfect on a hot day. This delicious Mediterranean Orzo Pasta Salad may not be the »lightest« candidate in the world of salads, but we haven’t reached 30°C in our apartment under the roof yet… we can still manage a few carbs I guess ;P
I love pasta – so a big bowl of noodles is something I absolutely gravitate to… even though I should avoid carbs. But what can you do when something is so delicious? It’s no different with these Fettuccine al Limone with Green Asparagus. So good! This dish is particular popular here in spring and beginning of summer when asparagus is available from local farms. Local and seasonal is always the best, right?! ;)
We love wok dishes – they are often easy to prepare and really delicious. What else could you want? You heat up that big metal thing, throw everything inside, add a sauce, and lunch or dinner is ready. It’s that easy ;) These Yaki Udon Noodles with Pork are no different – super easy to do and on the table in record time. Well… and delicious. Should mention that as well I guess ;)
In Southern Germany, Spätzle and Knöpfle aka. egg noodles are very popular and served quite often. Maybe I should narrow it down a bit – they are popular in Swabia and in Baden (where I am from). I would not dare to say they are super popular in Bavaria – they have their own favorites ;P However, I brought my fondness for this type of noodles to Berlin many years ago. We love to prepare dishes like these Swabian Knöpfle with Leek & Meat Sauce – among many other traditional dishes from the area.
I’ve always been a big fan of pasta. There are so many delicious pasta dishes out there, so much to still try ;) Saying that – in the last few years I’ve been trying to reduce carbs in my diet due to… well, diabetes. This means I am eating less pasta, but when I do, I enjoy every single noodle! Or every single gnocchi ;) Like I did here with these simple (One-Pot) Gnocchi with Mushrooms, Spinach & Chorizo. An easy dish that is perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner. So good!
There is one dish from Italian cuisine that always ends up on our table – over and over again: a simple Classic Lasagna Bolognese. We also like spaghetti and other types of pasta from time to time, but if someone here is allowed to ask for something specific for dinner, the choice is always lasagna. With lots of cheese. An outrageous amount of cheese ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
