It never hurts to have a few sweet treats at home. Whether it’s for yourself or whenever guests drop by unexpectedly. If you don’t want to serve something from the supermarket to your guests (or yourself) I can only recommend these Easy Ice Cube Tray Chocolates with dried fruits and nuts. They are super easy to prepare and really delicious. So delicious your guests can only hope there is anything left after one of your midnight chocolate rushes ;P
I’ve been a little more attention to what I eat in the past years. This means we do no longer have a spot in the kitchen where we store sweets for a movie night or something similar. This was a common thing back in the days – my family always had a little drawer full of chocolate, sweets, chips, and stuff like that for a night on the sofa. I assume this is still something many people have at home…
Even though we do not have sweets like that lying around anymore – there is still a lot of chocolate in the kitchen…. but 99.9% of that is for baking. Also, that chocolate is as far from the sofa as possible so we don’t just grab something while watching a movie. You don’t have to make it any easier for yourself to cheat than necessary ;)
Anyway. There are moments you definitely want something sweet – when guests are coming over, for example. Even though I am baking a lot, I am not always in the mood to bake a cake for my guests. Preparing something like these chocolates on the other hand is so easy. Done in a few minutes tbh. The dried fruits are also a great way of convincing yourself that your snack is reasonably »healthy«. Dried fruits are fruits, aren’t they? ;P
Of course, there is nothing really healthy about these chocolates. Chocolate and dried fruits contain a lot of sugar. But you want to treat yourself sometimes… they are not made for daily consumption. That’s fine then ;)
As I mentioned already – the chocolates are really easy and quick to prepare. You just have to melt the chocolate, pour it into the (silicone) ice cube molds, sprinkle some dried fruits, chopped nuts, etc. on top, and you’re done. Plus a little patience for them to cool down and harden. That’s it.
If you like the chocolates to be vegan, like mine here – super easy to do. D’oh. Just use vegan chocolate. If you don’t care, you can use any other type of chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate works great here, but milk chocolate is also fine. Or a mix of both. Adding milk chocolate lets the chocolates melt in your mouth (and in your hands) – be warned ;)
I love to make these chocolates after Christmas and Easter. We often have chocolate leftover after the holidays and that’s perfect to use for this sweet snack. A great way to get rid of chocolate Santas and Easter bunnies ;P
INGREDIENTS / ZUTATEN
(12 chocolates)
7 oz. (200g) semi-sweet chocolate (vegan)
some dried fruits, chopped
some nuts (mixed), chopped
some dried Goji berries
(12 Schokotafeln)
200g Zartbitterschokolade (vegan)
einige Trockenfrüchte, gehackt
einige Nüsse (gemischt), gehackt
einige getrocknete Goji-Beeren
DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG
1. Chop the dried fruits and nuts coarsely. Set aside.
2. Chop the chocolate and add it to a microwave-safe bowl. Melt carefully in the microwave. Do not overheat the chocolate! Pour the melted chocolate into the molds of a silicone ice cube tray* and let it cool down for a few minutes – you don’t want the chocolate to harden but thicken slightly. Add the chopped dried fruits, nuts, and Goji berries and press them slightly into the chocolate. Set aside, so the chocolate can harden completely. If you are in a hurry, place the ice cube tray in the fridge to cool down the chocolate.
3. Remove the chocolates from the molds and serve (or wrap for gifting).
1. Trockenfrüchte und Nüsse grob hacken. Zur Seite stellen.
