Today I have again some brownies for you – and a book – and a little experiment. But let’s start with the brownies… ;)

What you can see on the plate here, topped with delicious caramel sauce, is a super moist, fudgy, super caramel(y?), chocolaty brownie ;) Yeah – I know… a lot of words for a simple brownie, but it’s all true! That brownie is divine! It has apple sauce and diced apples in the batter which makes the brownie super moist – exactly how a brownie should be. Combined with the caramel inside and on top of the brownie…. well, what can I say – awesome!
The recipe for this delicious treat is from Patricks book Ich machs mir einfach – einfach lecker: Süßes, Mini-Kuchen, Desserts, Eis und mehr*. You don’t know Patrick? No, it’s not Spongebob’s friend ;) Patrick has a blog called www.ichmachsmireinfach.de – you can find a lot of easy and delicious recipes there (or in his book – both in German).
My recipes sometimes take quite a bit more time and effort to be done – Patrick is all about easy, quick and delicious. The brownies from his book are done in no time and the result is awesome! Haven’t had brownies like that in a long time :) Take a look at his book – you will find a lot of easy and delicious recipes for cakes, cupcakes, muffins and even ice cream. His Cookie Monster Ice Cream in the book – awesome! HINT: Yes, you have to go to a bookstore and take a look for yourself what it looks like – I will not show you here now :P
Well… and now to that little experiment I was talking about in the beginning ;) You may have noticed that the pictures look a bit different this time. A bit darker… I TRIED to go with a different style, but as you can see – there is room for improvement. That’s why I call it an experiment :P Some day I will find out how to do it properly…
Now some words for Patrick – the rest of you can continue with the recipe :P
Also – wann kommt das nächste raus? ;) Ach ja und ich hab bei den Zutaten bissi tauschen müssen, weil der normale Zucker grad alle war und ich auch keine getrockneten Äpfel hatte ;)
INGREDIENTS / ZUTATEN
2/3 cup (170g) apple sauce
1/2 cup (60g) cocoa powder
1/4 cup (60ml) apple juice
1 1/2 cups (300g) brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/3 cup (175g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of ground anise (optional)
pinch of salt
1 apple (or 5.3 oz. dried apples)
15 toffees (soft caramels), chopped
caramel sauce for drizzling
170g Apfelmus
60g Kakaopulver
60ml Apfelsaft
300g bauner Zucker
2 Eier
1 TL Vanille Extrakt
175g Mehl (Type 405)
1 TL Backpulver
1 TL Zimt
Prise gemahlener Anis (optional)
Prise Salz
1 Apfel (oder 150g getrocknete Äpfel)
15 Toffees (Sahnekaramell), gehackt
Karamellsauce zum Verzieren
DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG
2. In a large bowl mix apple sauce with cocoa powder and apple juice. Add the sugar, eggs and vanilla extract and mix well. Mix the flour with baking powder, cinnamon, ground anise (optional) and salt. Add to the bowl and mix until just combined. Peel the apple, core and dice. Add to the batter together with about 1/3 of the chopped toffees and fold in. Pour into the prepared tin and smooth out the top. Sprinkle with the remaining chopped toffees and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out almost clean. Take out of the oven and let cool down in the tin. Cut into 9 pieces before serving and drizzle with caramel sauce.
