Classic German Easter Bread

Easter is the time for yeast bakes. Easter would be impossible without a Sweet Braided Loaf or a Classic German Easter Bread like this one here. At least in our family. Those bakes are necessary for Easter like Christmas cookies are for Christmas ;) Our Easter breakfast/brunch would not be perfect without it. To make things easier you can prepare the dough in advance and bake the braided loaf or bread the next morning. Preparing the dough does not take long – it needs quite some time to rise… that’s all. Same for all yeast bakes ;P

Are you baking for Easter? Many do I assume. A nice braided loaf or some other yeast bake should be on every brunch table. It’s a must-have! I don’t know why, but Easter would not be the same without something like that. It does not always have to be something sweet, I also like these Bread Knots for example which are savory and made with ham and cheese. Really nice addition to a brunch or breakfast… or maybe the next bbq? Who knows ;)

Easter without any yeast bake is impossible in my house! It does not matter if it’s a classic bake or a more modern attempt of creating something with yeast – something has to end up on the table. For example something like this yeast wreath aka. savarin filled with pistachio cream and espresso infused glaze. Definitely a “must have” for a good Easter brunch!

Simple Sweet Braided Loaf with Nut Filling aka. German Nusszopf

A homemade babka or braided loaf is not only for Easter a nice treat. I could actually eat a slice of this simple German Nusszopf (Braided Loaf with Nuts) every day. Unfortunately, my blood sugar wouldn’t be too thrilled if I did. I don’t use a lot of sugar in the dough here, but the sugar glaze on top is too much for me personally ;) That’s why I do not always brush the whole loaf with the glaze – the part I want to eat has no sugar on top. Clever, right?! ;P
