I’ve got some Marble Pound Cake for you today. Yay or nay? What do you think? I like it a lot cause it’s a quick and easy cake you can prepare if you are craving something sweet. Like my grandma, I made this one here with a thick layer of chocolate glaze… yummy! Who wants a piece? First come first serve ;)
Marble cakes have quite a bad image I would say – even though you can find them on every birthday party or even in coffee shops everywhere. It is not one of that “trendy bakes” everybody is raving about. It’s a good old-fashioned cake – simple and easy to prepare. This cake is your best choice if you want to serve something to guests who invited themselves… like your grandma for example or if you have to bring a gift to a birthday party ;P
Delicious and easy. But be warned – it can turn into a disaster pretty quickly if you bake this cake too long. You will end up with a cake as dry as the Sahara and the only way to eat it will be with a huge glass of milk ;) But don’t worry – if you follow the instructions in the recipe you should get a nice cake with the perfect texture. Not dry at all. But it can’t hurt to check from time to time with a wooden skewer if the cake is done – every oven heats up differently ;)
If you want to “enhance” your cake, you can add some cherries or pieces of banana to the cake batter. So good! The cake should be stored well wrapped at room temperature. It should stay nice and delicious for at least 2-3 days. Of course only if you can stop munching. Seriously ;)
INGREDIENTS / ZUTATEN
1 cup (200g) sugar
3 medium eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 3/4 (230g) all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup (160ml) buttermilk
1/3 cup (40g) cocoa powder
1/3 cup (80ml) hot water
200g Zucker
3 Eier (M)
1 TL Vanille Extrakt
230g Mehl (Type 405)
2 TL Backpulver
1/2 TL Salz
160ml Buttermilch
40g Kakao
80ml heißes Wasser
DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG
2. Add the butter and sugar to a large bowl and mix until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one after another and mix well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix in. In a separate bowl mix the flour with baking powder, and salt. Add flour mix alternating with the buttermilk and mix until just combined – do not overmix. Set aside.
3. Add the cocoa to a bowl and mix with the hot water until smooth. Add about 1/3 of the cake batter and mix until well combined. Add the cake batters with a spoon to the prepared loaf pan randomly to get a mixed cake batter. Use a knife or skewer and mix a bit more to get swirls and the marble effect. Place in the oven and bake for 45-60 minutes or until a skewer inserted to the center comes out clean. Take out of the oven and let cool down for about 10-15 minutes in the pan, then remove and let cool down completely on a wire rack. If you like chocolate on top like me, you can brush the cake with melted chocolate – I used about 5 oz. of melted dark chocolate

Hi! Where’s the chocolate icing recipe?
Hi Gail.
It’s just melted dark chocolate. I added the amount I used to the recipe but you can also use pre-made chocolate glaze from the store.
Cheers, Marc
