Happy Cookie Friday! I don’t want to admit it, but I have to admit it… these Cookie Dough Brownie Balls are “the bomb”! ;) As you might know, I actually try to keep myself and my body away from sugar as much as possible, but honestly – I could not resist. I had to bite in one of these balls… and it was soooo good! ;)
I think I am quite lucky to have no huge cravings for sweet stuff normally. One year ago that was quite different. When I started to reduce sugar I sometimes had problems staying away from chocolate and stuff like that. This lately I am fine and happy without sweet desserts or snacks… until these Cookie Dough Brownie Balls came into my life. I guess you could call it an “unexpected relapse” ;P
The flavors of these (really not tiny) balls remind me somehow of “Mozart Kugeln” – a common chocolate-coated candy here in Germany and Austria with marzipan and pistachio filling. Both not present in these brownie balls, but somehow it reminded me of the other sweets. Must be the overload of sugar and chocolate that made my tastebuds go crazy ;) Well… every now and then you can treat yourself to something, right?! So eating one of those balls should be fine. As long as you can say “STOP” afterward, everything is fine ;))
Anyway. With these delicious Cookie Dough Brownie Balls, I am celebrating 5 years of Cookie Friday! It’s crazy! Exactly 5 years ago today I turned boring old Fridays into Cookie Fridays with these Toblerone Chocolate Cookies. Not the first cookie recipe on this blog but the first Cookie Friday recipe. Since that day I published (almost) every Friday a new cookie recipe. A lot of cookie recipes you might think… and yes – cookie recipes are the biggest category here on my blog now. You could fill several baking books with all those recipes. Maybe I should contact a publisher?! ;)
Well… let’s celebrate this glorious cookie filled years with another cookie (inspired) recipe – these Cookie Dough Brownie Balls! Let me grab one more and then we can start the party ;P
Happy “5 Years of Cookie Friday” to me! Off to the next 250 cookie recipes ;P
Note: If you are concerned about the raw cookie dough inside the balls – there is no egg involved, so it’s basically safe. You can bake the flour beforehand to be 100% sure nothing will happen. I never had problems using it as it is but better safe than sorry, right?! ;)
INGREDIENTS / ZUTATEN
For the brownie balls:
14 oz. (400g) brownies (e.g. with this recipe)
up to 3.5 oz. (100g) cream cheese
1/3 cup (75g) butter, softened
1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
1 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup (130g) all-purpose flour
pinch of salt
2 oz. (60g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
For the glaze:
10 oz. (300g) semi-sweet chocolate, melted
1 tbsp. coconut oil
some chopped semi-sweet chocolate for decorations
Für die Brownie Bälle:
400g Brownies (z.B. nach diesem Rezept)
bis zu 100g Frischkäse
75g Butter
50g brauner Zucker
1 EL Milch
1 TL Vanille Extrakt
130g Mehl (Type 550)
Prise Salz
60g Zartbitterschokolade, gehackt
Für die Glasur:
300g Zartbitter Kuvertüre
1 EL Kokosöl
etwas gehackte Schokolade als Deko
DIRECTIONS / ZUBEREITUNG
2. Add the butter, sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a large bowl and mix until light and fluffy. Mix the flour with salt and add to the bowl – mix until just combined. Add the chopped chocolate and fold in. Make about 20 balls and place them in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes to firm up.
3. Form about 20 balls out of the brownie mixture. Take one of the brownie balls and flatten it in the palm of your hand. Place one of the cookie dough balls on top and wrap the brownie mixture around that ball to create a bigger ball with the cookie dough enclosed. Place on a board or small baking sheet and repeat with the remaining balls. Place in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
4. Melt the chocolate glaze in a heatproof bowl in the microwave or over a pot with simmering water. Add the coconut oil and mix it in to thin out the chocolate – that makes it easier to work with. Dip the balls into the chocolate to cover completely, remove excess chocolate and place on a wire rack or a large piece of baking parchment. Continue until all balls are coated. Before the chocolate starts to set sprinkle the brownie balls with chopped chocolate. Place in the fridge to cool down and firm up completely before serving. Store in a cool place.
