Are you a licorice fan or do you hate it? I think there is not much in between loving it and hating it ;) At our house, there are two distinct parties – the licorice lovers and the licorice haters… I belong to the group that likes licorice. Of course! :P That’s why you are getting some delicious licorice syrup from me today. Homemade of course!
Do you like caramel? I am definitely a huge fan! Everything made with caramel is better than stuff made without caramel – that’s a fact! Just think of Crème Brûlée…! ;)
The thin caramel layer on a Crème Brûlée is pretty easy to make – you just need some sugar, a kitchen torch and a minute. Making caramel or caramel sauce in larger quantities is a bit more difficult. Fortunately, for caramel sauce, there is a way to make it easy and without much effort.
You probably all know Pop Tarts, right?! No? Those little sweet snacks from the US? You can get them here too in Germany – many supermarkets have them now in the section with American foods. They are little packets or better said hand pies- filled with ham or chocolate for example. You put them in the toaster to heat them up and then you have a little sweet snack ready. These homemade Pop Tarts need a bit longer to prepare but you don’t have to worry about the ingredients – you known exactly what’s in there..
The last cherries will be gone soon from the farmer’s markets, in supermarkets, they are already hard to find… If you don’t act fast now, they are gone! Not for good, but at least until next summer :P So grab some, no matter if you eat them out of the paper bag or if you make a delicious cake or pie with it – the important thing is to get them and eat them in some way ;) The ones you get in glass jars stored in sugary water all year long in the supermarkets are just not the same. Make some Cherry Pie Filling at home to solve the problem ;)
For those watching “GNTM” – Heidi Klum would say now “Heute habe ich leider kein Foto für dich!” (I have no picture for you today) ;) Yes weird… the idea behind this is just: I have no typical recipe for you today – no cake no cupcakes, but a basic recipe everybody should know about…
There is nothing baked to find here today. A good idea anyway with the weather right now – living under the roof and sun keeps me from turning on the oven in summer ;P So instead of cake I have a recipe for homemade pesto for you. One green and one red – you can also say Pesto all Genovese and Pesto Rosso.
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
