Mirabelle Plum season is almost over here – so hurry up to get the last ones at your farmers market or grocery store! I like those little yellow plums as much as the “regular” ones, though the flavor is quite different. The tart I made is pretty easy to do – a basic cust, easy to make filling and the plums – that’s all. And the result is really delicious :)
Damson plum pies have a long tradition in our family. I’ve been helping to bake cakes like that since I was a little kid. Back then I could only help to place the damson plums on top…but I helped ;P Today, I love to make a delicious Damson Plum Cake aka. German Zwetschgendatschi like this one here from start to finish as soon as the plum season starts at the farmer’s markets in late summer. Zwetschgendatschi is a super simple yet extremely delicious cake that has a lot of fans in Germany! Could you say »no« to a slice of this cake with some whipped cream on top?! ;P
Cakes with Damson plums have a long tradition in the area I grew up as a kid (Southern Germany). They are extremely popular in late summer and autumn. We even have a special name for them that differed from other areas in Germany. Normally you would say »Zwetschgenkuchen« which translates to »Damson Plum Cake« – in the south, you will often hear »Zwetschgendatschi« instead ;) So this Damson Plum Cake with Streusels is actually called Zwetschgendatschi with Streusels. I know… it makes no sense, but it is how it is ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
