When plums are in season in late summer and autumn, a simple plum cake with streusel topping always wins the race for the first plum bake of the season. Well, almost always. Sometimes this simple Damson Plum Clafoutis wins the race. This delicious French dessert is easy to make and always tastes great! Combined with some vanilla ice cream, this dessert is simply awesome.
Cakes are great, but if you have to spend several hours in the kitchen to prepare them, they are not as great as they could be ;P I don’t mind working a bit longer in the kitchen on a weekend, but during the week… you have to be able to get everything done much faster ;P Fortunately, there are some simple and quick cakes, like this Speedy Damson Plum Cake (with Yogurt-Oil-Dough) that can be done on a weeknight after work. Quick and easy – that’s what we all want, right? Well… and delicious I suppose ;P
Plum cakes are very popular here in late summer and fall. When Damson plums and regular plums are in season I love to bake cakes with them. I love them so much I could actually bake a cake like this delicious Zwetschgendatschi aka. German Plum Cake with Streusels at least once a week. Fortunately, there are always a bunch of people that are more than happy to pick up a slice or two, so I don’t have to eat all of them by myself ;P
As soon as (damson) plums arrive at the farmer’s market or in the supermarket it’s time for a simple streusel cake with plums. This year, however, this delicious Damson Plum Ricotta Cake won the race and was the first cake of the »plum season«. I think it was a good decision to try something new. The cake is super easy to prepare and really delicious. It also looks really nice in my opinion – probably not everyone’s cup of tea though with all those plums on top ;P
I am not sure if all of you out there are familiar with “Maulwurfkuchen” aka. Mole(Hill) Cakes. I think they are something very German. The Internet does not really know where they are coming from (neither did anybody I asked), so claiming them to be German is the obvious thing to do, right? ;P The base of this type of cake is a delicious chocolate cake, topped with some fruits and an insane amount of whipped cream – finished with crumbled chocolate cake to look like a freshly dug-up molehill. Well. You could also say delicious Winter Dome Cake with Cinnamon Plums because that’s what his one here is. Not a (boring) molehill cake ;P
You can still get plums and damson plums everywhere here in Germany… but that will be over soon and then the dark time of the year begins – the time of frozen berries and fruits ;P Well… at least if you want to bake with seasonal and regional fruits and berries. Until then – let’s make the best out of it and prepare one last dessert with plums: a delicious Damson Plum Crumble. So easy to prepare and so good at the same time. Served with some vanilla ice cream or custard this is one of my favorite desserts. Of all times! ;)
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
