I think I almost killed some snowmen today. I actually wanted to make Cookies for Cookie Friday with nice good looking snowmen on top, but somehow they started to melt… no idea why?! Maybe it’s the climate change? But no… Trump says that is fake new :P Well… I guess we have to live with these half-melted Snowman Cookies. Still good!
Here in Germany, we have some bakes and sweets that have kind of weird names – even for us Germans ;) People eat things like “Liebesknochen” aka. Lovebones or “Schweineohren” aka. Pigs Ears (that is something sweet, not actual ears from pigs) or “Katzenzungen” aka. Cat Tongues (yeah I know… weird). The name of today’s “Christmas Cookie Friday” cookies can easily be put into the same category of weirdness: Engelsaugen aka. Angel Eyes. In general a nice name, but when you look at the cookies and imagine angels with that kind of red eyes?! Oh boy… ;)
What are your favorite Christmas cookies? The classic ones or the fancy new stuff that pops up each year in magazines or on blogs (like this one here)? ;) I am definitely a fan of the typical cookies and all the Christmas bakes I know since I’m a kid… cinnamon stars, the basic shortbread cookies in many different shapes and of course my all-time favorite: Vanillekipferl (Vanilla Crescents). So good! Today’s “Heidesand” cookies were not on my Christmas cookie list until lately… that’s probably because they are typical in the north of Germany but not so much in the south where I am coming from ;)

Macaroons are something we always had for Christmas in many different versions at home – with hazelnuts, coconut flakes or almonds, with marzipan, chocolate and other “enhancements” ;) At some point, these little fellas were replaced on the Christmas-baking-to-do-list by other cookies, new ones that needed to be tested. This year I finally made some macaroons again – almond macaroons. A very good decision ;)
Have you ever heard of Marzipan Almond Crescents? I mean the name says it all, but have you tried something like that? It’s awesome delicious! Really. If you had one, you want them all. That’s the reason I am making them not very often. Too dangerous :P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
