Can there be anything better than brioche and chocolate combined? I don’t think so. This Chocolate Streusel Babka is an absolutely brilliant treat. Unfortunately, we do not make it very often. This bake needs a lot of attention and time when preparing it but the time and effort you put in is definitely worth it. A fluffy and chocolaty inside combined with a crisp and crunchy exterior… so good! Not only for Easter ;)
Easter and yeast bakes go together like Christmas and Christmas cookies. None of these holidays would work without its special bakes. Fortunately (for you), I got quite a collection of recipes for these types of bakes. So in case, you need some inspiration for the upcoming Easter holidays I might have something for you. Easter is coming up soon. This calls for delicious sweet yeasted bread and braids for today’s “Bake Together”. We Germans love to bake with yeast for Easter so this is the perfect topic for Andrea and me this week. Since I am baking quite often with yeast the decision of what to make at the end was a bit difficult because I’ve baked so much already… but as you can see I found something: a delicious Easter Bread Wreath with Marzipan Filling. Sounds good? ;)
There is nothing better than freshly baked homemade bread you pull out of your own oven. A slice of it, slightly warm with some butter and salt sprinkled on top… it’s the best! So delicious! One of my simplest and most uncomplicated bread recipes is definitely this recipe here for Potato Bread with Oats. Incredibly fluffy and thanks to the potatoes also fresh for a long time. Also, a great baking project, if you want to get rid of some (extra) cooked potatoes. You do not want to let anything go to waste ;)
Carnival is being celebrated in many countries around the world – not everywhere the same way. The reasons why people celebrate might be similar but how carnival is celebrated can be quite different ;) Same for the traditional dishes, bakes, and sweets served that are associated with that time of year and celebrations. In Germany people throw “Kamelle” (sweets like chocolate or candy) at each other, eat tons of marmalade-filled donuts and in other countries, they bake a King Cake like this one here, for example ;P
If there is one thing that is absolutely needed for carnival, it’s deep-fried sweets! Who – or better said – what else is supposed to soak up all the alcohol you consumed at a carnival party? Deep-fried donuts, fritters, and beignets! Exactly! However, this does not mean that people who don’t drink alcohol (I’m one of them) are not allowed to eat those sweet little treats… we like them too, and we definitely devour them as well after a long night of partying. ;P
Many, many moons ago, I brought a recipe for Classic New Orleans Beignets home from the US. Delicious delicacies that are actually not only great during carnival – they are actually great to make all year round. ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
