Christmas is a day away here in Germany – I can already smell the mulled wine on the stove. Normally I still have some Christmas cookies left at this stage of the Christmas madness, but in case you need something last minute, you could try to deep-fry some Christmas cookies: Deep-Fried Vanilla Stars, for example ;) A sweet small snack you can serve your guests and also work well to decorate a dessert as a highlight for your Christmas dinner.
Last Sunday was “National Ice Cream Day” in the USA. I totally missed that day this year. Bummer. Instead, I made a delicious crumble cake with cherries… well, happens. But in order to make it up with the “ice cream gods”, I will have some ice cream recipes this week instead. I didn’t want you to have a week without any ice cream at all – now that it’s a bit warmer again, you can always use a little refreshment. A delicious Ube Vanilla ice cream will cool you down for sure ;)
The rhubarb season is coming to an end. Tomorrow is theoretically the last day of the season which means we have to wait almost a whole year until rhubarb is available again. A cruel time. So let’s quickly make a few more rhubarb recipes before it’s too late. This Rhubarb Compote with Vanilla Sauce and Streusel is a great dessert to prepare in advance or even freeze it for later. In case you want to extend the rhubarb season a bit, this is definitely a good option.
I have to admit it publicly: I am a rhubarb fanboy! It’s out now! If you use the “search function” on the blog and type in “rhubarb” you will easily see what I am talking about. I have served quite a lot of rhubarb recipes on this blog already. Everything from easy peasy rhubarb sheet cakes to more complicated layered rhubarb delights. Today’s delicious no-bake cheesecake with biscoff base and roasted rhubarb will extend this collection with another highlight. But be sure – this is not the end yet :P
Today’s recipe is a German classic. A delicious dessert which has been made in a thousand different versions, I assume – probably all of them super delicious ;) I decided to make my Bavarian Cream aka. Bayerische Creme today with loads and loads of berries on top. As soon as fresh berries and fruits are available from local farmers on our farmer’s market I have to buy them and use them in as many bakes and desserts as possible… the season is way too short to waste any time ;P
Are you already in the mood for Christmas and everything that comes with it? Maybe already tired of “Last Christmas” playing on the radio? ;) Well… not everybody is into that whole Christmas madness, but I am pretty sure that most people are into cheesecakes (marvelous jump from one topic to another, right?). This Vanilla Crescent Cheesecake is slightly “christmassy” because of the Christmas cookies on top but mostly “cheesecaky” and delicious. That’s the important message here :P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
