Easter without a cake – not possible in many families. If you get together for an Easter brunch or simply for a coffee date during the long Easter weekend you need cake. Right?! It’s essential for the whole shablam. This year I am probably baking again this delicious German Eierlikör Custard Streusel Cake. We’ve been baking this cake for many years already but the recipe never made it onto the blog… until now ;P
Is there anything better than combining two delicious cakes and creating something that’s even better than was there originally? Carrot cake is delicious on its own, so is cheesecake. But what happens if you combine the two? The result is a super delicious (Baked) Carrot Cake Cheesecake that is better than the individual cakes on their own. If you don’t believe it, you simply have to bake it and try it yourself ;P
Easter is the time for baking – at least here in our house. The long weekend is perfect for bigger baking projects. We love to do everything from cakes to bread and smaller snacks like cookies. A sweet braided loaf or brioche is a staple here for Easter, so are cookies. When friends or family is coming over you can also expect a cake ;P This year, I’ll definitely be baking these delicious Easter Bunny Chocolate Chip Cookies again. A very cute sweet snack but also great to decorate the Easter table or buffet. Kids love them ;)
Easter is the time for homemade stuff. All kinds of baked goods with yeast are popular around the world – an Easter brunch without would be wrong ;P For this reason, we always have brioche or something similar for Easter. This year, we took inspiration from a »neighboring« country (well almost) and baked a delicious (Streusel) Hot Cross Bun Wreath. Similar to our Easter bakes but still slightly different ;P
Yeast bakes are always welcome in our family when it comes to breakfast. For as long as I can remember, we’ve had delicious sweet braided loaves for breakfast (not only) at Easter. My mom rarely made them herself though – she preferred getting them from the bakery close by. My brother, on the other hand, liked to get into the kitchen and baking them from time to time. At some point, as a teenager, I also started to work with yeast… and I still like to do it today ;) I think there is nothing better than a freshly baked Spelt Sweet Braided Loaf with a little butter on top. Simply terrific!
What is the one thing that should not be missing on your Easter table? Right, Easter eggs and Easter bunnies, of course! Many people have them made out of chocolate – the range of products you can get in supermarkets is almost endless here ;) I am perhaps a bit old-fashioned, but I actually like to bake my Easter bunnies and Easter eggs. Simple and Fluffy Easter Bunnies (with Quark-Oil-Dough) like these here are ready in no time and extremely delicious. No need to get the chocolate ones from the store ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
