These little cakes are only baked for a short time every year in China and everywhere else where the Moon Festival is celebrated. These Mooncakes with Red Bean Paste are (among other versions) extremely popular and essential to celebrate the Moon Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival) properly. In summer, it’s hard to avoid zucchini – they’re on display in every supermarket and are often quite cheap. The same can’t always be said for other fruits and veggies in summer. These »cookies« are often baked for children’s birthday parties here in Germany – simple Black & White Cookies with chocolate and sugar glaze are quick to prepare and popular with kids. These »cookies« may not be the pinnacle of confectionery art, but they are certainly delicious. If you like, you can decorate them with more than just chocolate and sugar glaze… ;)
When we order Crispy Pork Belly and other small dishes as appetizers at the Asian dumpling restaurant around the corner, the pork belly is always the first dish that’s gone… It’s slightly spicy, crispy, and really delicious. Impossible to resist. Really… ;P
Now and then, a few bananas turn a little darker in our kitchen. Darker than even die-hard banana lovers might like. Those dark or even black bananas might not be good for snacking anymore, but they are definitely great for baking! Summer is the season for cherries. As soon as they hit the farmers market, we normally grab a basket and snack the first ones on the way home already. What’s left, often ends up in a compote. Like the one we used here for these Mini Cheesecakes with Cherry Compote. Super easy and quick to make. What more could you want?! Another one, of course! ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
