Everyone knows them, almost everyone likes them, hardly anybody (here in Germany) can pronounce the name correctly: Swedish Köttbullar [ˈɕœtˌbɵlːar]. The phonetic transcription probably won’t help much either here ;) But it doesn’t matter – instead of “Swedish Köttbullar with noodles”, you can say “IKEA meatballs with noodles”. Everyone will exactly know what you mean by that ;)
Minestrone is one of the oldest Italian dishes still made in Italian cuisine today. Normally it’s served as an appetizer before the main course, but this version here is actually THE main course. This Minestrone with Orecchiette Pasta is a flavorful dish that will fill you up and warm you at the same time. Unfortunately, this is something you have to start thinking about again in September. There is no way to sugarcoat it: winter is coming! ;)
Today’s recipe is going to be a bit fishy… well, or let’s say there is fish involved. That probably sounds better ;) Today I got some delicious Salmon Skewers with Peanut Sauce and Vietnamese Noodle Salad. Does not happen too often here on the blog that you’re getting served something like that… even though I really like to eat fish ;) Maybe I should do more recipes with fish. I’m sure there are enough people out there who like some seafood recipes…. ;)
Sometimes there is no time for cooking. Not even enough time for ordering something. When I’m in a hurry or just don’t want to do much, I often make sandwiches. They are done in no time, simple and easy. This Italian B.M.T. Sandwich is one of those easy dishes I like to prepare when I’m not in the mood for anything else ;P
If you’ve been to the US you probably know this sandwich or even had one already – everybody else probably heard of it at least – the Philly Cheesesteak. Here in Germany, you can find them on many street food markets these days. If you have the opportunity you should try one of them. If there is no food market close by, you can always make them at home… with this recipe here. I think they will be pretty close to the original ones ;)
I know it sounds a bit weird to eat something hot and spicy in summer, something that can make you sweat, but that is actually exactly what you need sometimes! Look at the Asian cuisine – full of hot and spicy curries – which are eaten all year round at any temperature ;) When I visited Asia and Thailand in particular for the first time, I kind of fell in love with curry. All those fresh ingredients and all those incredible flavors! I really love it! This Vegan Red Thai Pumpkin Curry is a good example here – so delicious and actually quite easy to prepare. I did not make it too hot, but if you can stand the heat, feel free to spice it up! ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
