Right now you can find those little dark purple fellas everywhere – in supermarkets and farmers markets. Plums! Plums! Plums! Or Damson Plums! ;) It’s about time to do something with them an give you another of favorite recipes for this delicious little colorful fruits. Let me show you how to make a Classic German (Damson) Plum Streusel Cake! You will love it!
The next round of “Bake together – the Baking Surprise” is happening! This months topic: Damson Plums! I love it! Why? Cause those little purple fellas are super delicious! There is nothing better in fall. Today one of my all-time favorites: Damson Plum Cake baked on a tray (easy peasy)!
As soon as Damson plums are in season they have to be used in a bake. It’s impossible to pass by the fruits at a supermarket and not buy a basket full of little purple plums. ;) The first Damson plum cake of the year is usually a simple sheet cake with streusels on top, but sometimes this cake here replaces the classic: a terrific Six Spices Damson Plum Pound Cake. Thanks to the spice mix, this cake is really delicious!
Sometimes you have to experiment with ingredients… if you are lucky you get something awesome. If not it can end up in a big disaster. Luckily this Galette with Tomatoes & Plums and a Crust with Parmigiano here turned out pretty damn good! ;)
When (Damson) plums are in season in late summer and fall, we like to bake with them a lot. The season for Damson plums is not that long here in Germany, so you have to use that time wisely ;) The ones you can buy in glass jars or frozen in the supermarket are just not as good as the fresh ones. That’s the reason why we bake as much as possible in August and September. Delicious stuff like these Damson Plum Muffins with Meringue Topping. Some would say they are cupcakes… but they are not ;P
Damson plum pies have a long tradition in our family. I’ve been helping to bake cakes like that since I was a little kid. Back then I could only help to place the damson plums on top…but I helped ;P Today, I love to make a delicious Damson Plum Cake aka. German Zwetschgendatschi like this one here from start to finish as soon as the plum season starts at the farmer’s markets in late summer. Zwetschgendatschi is a super simple yet extremely delicious cake that has a lot of fans in Germany! Could you say »no« to a slice of this cake with some whipped cream on top?! ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
