Probably everybody has tried this cake already – a simple Strawberry Cake (with Custard) is part of many families’ summer gatherings. At least here in Germany. We often had this cake on weekends, but Mum made it a bit easier for herself and used a ready-made cake base from the supermarket… You can get one of those for this cake here as well, of course, but making one from scratch at home isn’t that difficult, to be honest.
Whenever you are in need of a quick sweet treat or snack for guests, there are many ways to make something at home. Cakes, cupcakes, or cookies – there is a lot that’s easy to prepare. If you like things particularly simple, you should try Vanilla Custard Pastries. Puff pastry dough from the supermarket is a quick and easy way to create something delicious!
Easter without a cake – not possible in many families. If you get together for an Easter brunch or simply for a coffee date during the long Easter weekend you need cake. Right?! It’s essential for the whole shablam. This year I am probably baking again this delicious German Eierlikör Custard Streusel Cake. We’ve been baking this cake for many years already but the recipe never made it onto the blog… until now ;P
The name for these little sweet delights could cause some confusion I think. They are called »Spandauer«. Spandauer with Marzipan, Vanilla Custard and Raspberry Jam to be precise. The name Spandauer refers to a district in Berlin but these fellas are not German. Not at all. You could almost say »something is rotten in the state of Denmark« ;P
Christmas is always very festive and colorful… but I think it could be more colorful sometimes ;P With these Easy Custard Christmas Cookies you will definitely get more color on your cookie plate. More is more, right? Only if you want, of course. If you prefer your cookies plain and simple you can skip the food coloring. That does not make the cookies any less delicious ;P
Are you also sometimes too lazy to get bread for breakfast from the bakery in the morning? I always have to take the dog out on a walk in the morning, so I can always stop by the bakery, but I would prefer to stay in bed, actually ;) If you’re smart, you can avoid the early walk to a bakery or supermarket and prepare your breakfast – like these Chia Puddings – in advance so you don’t have to leave the house in the morning… It’s pretty easy actually. Meal prep is the “magic word” here.
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
