Apples and autumn – there’s really not much more to say, right? When the first apples are harvested in autumn, there’s no way to not use them for baking. We do something delicious with these little fruits almost every week. Something like this Easy Apple Galette (with Fennel Seeds), for example. This delicious dish is super easy to prepare and tastes even better with some vanilla ice cream on top or on the side!
Today we got a gnocchi dish that’s a bit different – instead of a savory meal, we have prepared a sweet dessert using simple potato gnocchi. Delicious Sweet Gnocchi with Damson Plum & Apple Compote. We also call it Gnocchi »Schmarrn« in honor of the classic Austrian dessert »Kaiserschmarrn« everybody knows. The two desserts are not really related, but close friends, let’s say it like that. ;P

Apples are available all year round in Germany and many other regions of the world. That’s probably why there are so many recipes in which apples play the leading role. This is also the case with this Apple Pecan Swirl Bread. Without apples, this bake would only be half as delicious! Without apples, it would probably just be a nut bread, but not a particularly good one, I guess. ;P
If you want to serve something special for breakfast or a brunch, a sweet casserole like this Franzbrötchen Apple Casserole aka. Ofenschlupfer is always a good idea – especially if you want to feed a lot of people. ;) We normally have that »problem« on public holidays. Relatives invite themselves, and you got to feed a few extra mouths. I mean – you can spoil loved family members with delicious food! ;P
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
