There are many versions of tapas. In Spain, these small dishes are usually served to accompany a glass of wine or beer in a bar or restaurant. If you order a drink, you normally get a small bite along with it. This can be a few chips or a mix of nuts and dried fruits. If you get something delicious like these Dates & Prunes wrapped in Bacon, this can be considered the »jackpot«… because it doesn’t happen that often ;P
Tapas come in many sizes, with many flavors, sometimes with meat, and sometimes without. Even though we like a lot of meat-free dishes – these small meat skewers, also known as Pinchos Morunos (Moorish meat skewers) are great! Pork or beef is usually used for these skewers, but we have also tried them with lamb meat or chicken. I’m sure you could also try making them with tofu. With the right seasoning, almost anything is possible ;P
Do you need a nice hot sauce? This Easy Mojo Picón is mucho delicioso and a staple of Spanish cuisine..! If you like it hot you should definitely try this one. It’s really good! ;)
This sauce is something you will often find on the Canary Islands. Papas Arrugadas with Mojo Picón is one of their most known dishes – small potatoes that are not skinned and cooked in salt water until the potato skin gets very wrinkly. Those wrinkly potatoes with the mojo sauce – absolutely delicious!
Spain is not the only place where you can enjoy delicious tapas along with your glass of wine or beer. If you got a kitchen, you can prepare something delicious at home, right? These Albóndigas with Tomato Sauce are one of my favorite tapas dishes to make at home – so easy to prepare, super tasty and everyone loves them. Add a few other tapas, and you’re ready for a small party or a relaxed movie night ;)
People like to bring home souvenirs from their holiday destinations, right?! Been there, done that. These days I am not looking anymore for t-shirts or other knick-knacks – we specialize in food now ;P Whether it’s actual food from a supermarket somewhere or simply ideas and recipes for specialties from the country and region we’ve been to. The title »Tapas Special« gives away already which country we like a lot and where we draw a lot of inspiration from when it comes to food and recipes ;)
I love my job, but in between I love to bake and try new things in the kitchen. A lot of my friends and colleagues encourage me to bake - for a very simple reason: they get the leftovers - and it seems they like it most of the time ;)
