Description

If you ever wondered if you can make something sweet with gnocchi – these Sweet Gnocchi with Damson Plum & Apple Compote are proof that you can ;)

Ingredients

Scale

For the plum compote:
10.6 oz. (300g) Damson plums (or regular plums)
3.4 fl. oz. (100ml) water
1/4 cup (50g) sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 pinch of ground cinnamon

For the apple compote:
2 medium apples (e.g. Granny Smith), peeled & diced
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
2-3 tbsp. water
1 tsp. lemon juice

For the gnocchi »Schmarrn«:
some butter for frying
17.6 oz. (500g) gnocchi (e.g. BÜRGER potato gnocchi*)
2-3 tbsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

some confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. Wash, core, and cut the Damson plums into thin wedges. Add the water, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon to a small saucepan and bring it to a boil. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the plums, reduce the heat, and let them simmer until the fruit starts falling apart – a few firmer pieces are okay. Remove from the heat and let cool down.

2. Next, peel, and core the apples, then cut them into small cubes. Add the apple cubes to a small saucepan, as well as the sugar, cinnamon, water, and lemon juice. Bring everything to a boil and let the apples simmer over medium heat until soft and the liquid in the saucepan is almost gone. Remove from the heat and let cool down.

3. Heat up a frying pan with some butter, add the gnocchi and fry them until nicely browned from all sides. Transfer the gnocchi to a bowl. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle it over the gnocchi and mix well. Transfer the sweet gnocchi to plates or bowls, add the plum and apple compote as well, and dust the gnocchi with confectioners’ sugar to your liking. Serve warm.
