What’s the first thing you think of, when you see an avocado? Guacamole. Right. But cake? Neither would I ;)
Avocados are like pineapples for me (sounds weird, I know). I see them in the supermarket and think “hm… I really like them. Haven’t had one in a while. Let me buy one!” – and then I look at them at home and think “I will do something with it tomorrow”. And after a couple of days they are rotten, because I never touched them again. It’s bad.
Today’s recipe is a contribution to a blog event where it is all about yeast dough. Really nice idea I think – several food bloggers get together and make an ebook with recipes about that one special topic: yeast. Maybe I should try something like that too some day…
A homemade babka or braided loaf is not only for Easter a nice treat. I could actually eat a slice of this simple German Nusszopf (Braided Loaf with Nuts) every day. Unfortunately, my blood sugar wouldn’t be too thrilled if I did. I don’t use a lot of sugar in the dough here, but the sugar glaze on top is too much for me personally ;) That’s why I do not always brush the whole loaf with the glaze – the part I want to eat has no sugar on top. Clever, right?! ;P
This bake is an “all-time classic” for any Easter brunch here in Germany. A Sweet Braided Loaf or as we call it “Hefezopf” is one of my favorite bakes and one of the first bakes I was able to make on my own when I started to bake as a kid… this should show you how easy this bake is ;P If I was able to make this as a kid everyone else should be able to do it too ;)
Is there a cake you like a lot? For me, it was this kind of Lemon Poppy Seed Cake for quite some time as a kid. A similar cake to this one was sold at my school and I got it quite often for lunch. So nice. But only if it is not dry… which can happen ;) But not this one here – this one is perfect!
